» Red - delightful...
Bert,This is a delightful story about searching for the perfect tree. It brought back memories of a time on the farm when we searched for trees for the entire family in the woods on Grandpa's farm. We didn't cut cedars. Ususally Mom and Dad had a pine and Grandma and Grandpa had spruce. Brandon is a spruce lover and that is okay by me. It reminds me of bygone days.
This years we found a beautiful Blue Spruce. Though it is not as tall as I usually get, it is lovely. The boys are coming this Sunday to help decorate it, so Dwight and I have to get it up and the lights on it Saturday. That could be a feat this year because he is not able to lift it.
Thanks for sharing this lovely story with us. I enjoyed my stroll down Memory Lane with you.
Merry Christmas to you and your family. I wish you all the good things that life has to offer.

What a great story, Bertha! Thanks for letting us go along on the Christmas tree hunt with y'all. I could smell the cedar and the woods.Reminds me of when we were kids. Daddy always dug up a good-sized cedar tree and kept it in a bucket of water until after the holidays. Then we would take the decorations off and he would plant it in the row that contained all the trees from Christmases past. The old house place where I grew up had a long line of beautiful cedar trees beside where the house used to be! It was fun to look at them and remember the year we had each particular tree. Thanks for jogging that memory. ![]()
Sorry I haven't commented lately; I've been reading your articles, though, and have loved them, especially the Thanksgiving one! My pregnant, diabetic daughter (hehe, how's that for a description?) has been in and out of the hospital since Thanksgiving several times and has been keeping me busy!
Hope all is going well and that this holiday season will be full of blessings for you and your family. Hugs to you all!

In response to message posted by Red:Hi hon, Thank you for your post and yes, it does bring back memories of many times we've gone out and searched for a tree. I don't think any tree we ever found was as perfect as this tree was. Did you ever place a bird's nest in your Christmas Tree? The children will search everywhere for a nest to put in Mama and Daddy's Christmas tree. Sort of a rule of thumb for their tree. I do hope you and Dwight have a wonderful Christmas and decorating the tree with the grandsons is a never to be forgotten moment in out lives...right?
Take care of yourself...

In response to message posted by jerrib:You are most welcome. I asked my mother the other day what her favorite Christmas was. I expected her to say it was when we went looking for the perfect tree but instead she remembered the night all of the grandchildren put on a play for her and daddy...but that's another Christmas story yet to be told...Have a wonderful Christmas...

In response to message posted by AnneWatkins:Oh Anne, I know what you mean about your daughter. Ginger is my daughter-in-law and lives right next door. She is expecting any day now, I can hardly wait...it's a boy and his name will be Cody Alexander. Best of luck to your daughter and to you...
That is a wonderful idea for the Christmas trees. Wish we had thought about that. The trees would be lined up from the house to the highway by now. Thanks for coming by and sharing your Christmas past with me....hugs

In response to message posted by Mountain_lady:Just checking in to see if that new grandbaby is here yet! Ours is going to be a boy, too, but so far Laura and John haven't settled on a name for him. I told them I guess we can just wait until he gets here and ask him what his name is! hehe.
Best wishes to you and your family on the birth of a new little boy. ![]()

In response to message posted by Mountain_lady:Bert,
Sorry I was so long getting back to read your post. Yes, for years I had an artifical bird's nest with a cardinal in it that I put on my tree. Unfortunately, last year Meeko (he was a pup then) got a hold of it and shredded it. I couldn't find one anywhere this year. I will keep my eyes open though and the first one I see I will replace it. It was one of my favorite ornaments.
Take care, dear friend. We had a great Christmas. I hope yours was terrific. The boys are staying overnight tonight and they are all tucked in and fast asleep. They look like little angels and are tuckered out from all of the excitement of Christmas. Santa was good to them and I hope you and your family was treated as well.
Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
