Thanks hon, I'll pass your message on to the family. I'm glad this story brought back some happy memories for you. Memories are very important in our lives. Even some of the bad ones we learn from. I've got a wonderful family and we have made a lot of memories. Thanks for opening my discussion...the weather is starting to change down here. Cold, windy and a chance of snow tomorrow. A big change from wearing summer clothes in November and then suddenly changing into warm clothes overnight, but that is the way this Arkansas weather works. Take care...hugs

Thanks...yeap, we've had several times like that but this particular one was at Christmas and you know, my boys were very young but they remember every minute of that Christmas. Just last winter we experienced several days of ice storms. It started on Christmas night. My son and his family stayed with us and it really was an experience. We stayed warm and well fed, that's all we needed. My grandson's said it was better than camping out. Now that is a compliment....hugs....

I really enjoyed hearing about this - and I've barely finished being with you on Thanksgiving! Hope all's well at your place.

What a great tale, Bertha. My first Christmas in the Ozarks, in 1983, was sort of like that. Only, I wasn't ready for it. But my daughter and I managed, and have some wonderful memories of that ice and snow covered Christmas when we became pioneer women. I hope we don't get a repeat of it, this year!

I really enjoyed your reminiscing. It truly must have been a blessed Christmas! Yep, it turned cold and blustery, all of a sudden, with tons of rain here, but a warm up is predicted for the weekend. Winter hasn't quite made it to the Ozarks yet! Hope you are doing great. Take care. Renie

Bert, the weather is fickle here this year. It is the first time in 50 years that we have had no measureable snowfall in November. I told Dwight last week that it seemed odd we hadn't had any real snow this year - only a dusting. So, now I know why. I wasn't old enough to remember a time when there was no snow in November.

We have had lots of rain this month and it is still raining now. It is to continue into the weekend. I pray it doesn't freeze or southern Ontario will be one big skating rink.

Growing up in these mountains and experiencing the past winters teaches you how to cope. Seems like our winters have gotten mild over the years since I was a child. I remember winters of snow almost every year..Mainly because I remember having to do the chores in the snow and ice. But that made memories too. Thanks for coming by Renie. The weather sure has turned warm once again.

I know, this is really crazy weather. We're still going barefoot and wearing summer clothes. LOL Sure don't feel like Christmas...I bet when it hits it will hit with both feet planted in the ground. I'm like Renie, I sure hope we don't get a repeat of last winter...it hit us hard on Christmas Night, that was when the ice came, the power went off and we lived like pioneers for about a week and a half. I have to admit...it was kinda fun...hugs

» AnneWatkins - Wonderful!

Hi Bertha,

I missed this the first time around because Laura was in the hospital, but I sure am glad I came by today! What a wonderful article. I could close my eyes and picture the Christmas tree ornaments shining in the candlelight. Pure magic. But, the whole story is magical!

hope all is well.....

hugs,
Anne
