» Red - spooky tale...
Bert,This is a spooky tale but a great one. I have heard many stories that tell of such things happening after a someone has died an untimely death. It seems they are not able to pass completely to the other side. I would not be surprised to hear that someone had seen this man walking on the road he took that fateful night. Strange things occur in this world.
Be sure to take time to visit the "Haunted Happenings" event. There are some great stories there. Sandy McCollum has one called the Big Blue House that tells of another spirit that has not passed over.
Take care, my friend. My Halloween story comes out Wednesday. Hope you have time to pay a visit then.
Please pray for Brandon. He spent most of today in the ER at the local hospital. I will be in touch by e-mail.

In response to message posted by Red:Hi hon, got your email today and I'm so glad that Brandon is doing better and he's going to a specialist. Keep me informed...
I've wondered and wondered what the new owners of that old house did to that bedroom. It was inheirited by Rosie's son. I don't think anyone lives there now.
I might have to do some investigating on that one.
Take care and let me know about Brandon...hugs

Great story, Bert. Imagine walking 24 miles total for tobacco! I would probably walk 12 total for a pack of Double Mint Chewing Gum. LOL!-- posted by Dubh_Sidhe

Oh, my goodness, what a story! These were relatives of yours, Bertha? I'd love to know more about this house, and I certainly enjoyed reading this story. I will make sure my husband reads it, too. You see, we have a special interest in anything to do with the banjo.Allen, my husband, has been a professional musician for more than 25 years and his primary instrument is the banjo!! You can see a picture of us, holding our instruments, by clicking on my bio. Anything with the word banjo in it snags my attention. hehe.
Hope you're doing well, and that your Halloween was nice and uneventful. ![]()

In response to message posted by Dubh_Sidhe:I thought the same thing but then I guess back in those days it was nothing to walk a few miles for just something like tobacco. I remember my mama telling me that she and daddy "stripped" cane the day after they married for a bucket of molasses. Sounds stupid to us but to them back them, that bucket of molasses was like 25 pounds of sugar to us. And those were the good ole days....hugs

In response to message posted by AnneWatkins:Hi Anne...I love banjo music. The house is a two story old country mansion. It had a summer kitchen off from the back porch. From what I remember, there was a parlor in the front then the kitchen and then a back bedroom. There were four bedrooms upstairs. One was the locked bedroom and it was on the north side of the second floor. It had one window in the room. Another room up there was on the west side of the second floor and had been Rosie's when she was a girl. It was a pretty room with flowers on the wall paper and a big old brass bed. A beautiful oil lamp that was green with big pink flowers painted on it pulled from a chain in the middle of the ceiling. When I spent a week there with great grandma, Rosie told me I could sleep in that upstairs room. I told her I would rather sleep next to grandma in the other double bed in her bedroom and that is where I did sleep. I don't remember much else about the house. It has been years since I've been in it. I was told that after great grandma died Rosie changed it alot. I wonder about that locked bedroom upstairs if she changed it and what happened to the banjo. I'll probably never know. Thanks for stopping by...hugs

Hi Bertha, this is actually quite a wonderful tale. Creepy, but so well done! Of course, it's well done, you wrote it, and I enjoyed it. The house sounds so neat. I love old houses. Thank you for the great entertainment, Berta. Hope all is well with you! Renie-- posted by Renie_Burghardt

In response to message posted by Renie_Burghardt:Thank you Renie...the house is a lovely old house or it use to be. I haven't seen it now in several years. I remember the summer kitchen just fascinated me as a child. I couldn't understand why anyone would have a kitchen out of the house just to use in the summer. Now with our hot summers I understand why.
It's rainy here tonight...probably will have a lot of fog in the morning. It is unseasonably warm, almost erie it is so warm. The colors on the mountain are fantastic. I went with my brother to Russellville this morning and the further east we went the more color there was. I don't think I've ever seen the oaks as pretty as they are this fall. Usually they just turn brown and that is it but they seem to be a very deep red this year before they turn brown. The Sweet Gum trees down by the spring are the prettiest I think I've ever seen. The very tops turn red first and then the color seems to drop slowly each day until the entire tree is a blazing orange and gold. Just beautiful.
Take care now and I'll be talking to you later...hugs
