» Red - Arkansas Living Cave of Mystery

Bert,

This article is both interesting and intriguing. I would love to explore it. I really enjoyed hearing about the carbon dating and the dating of the skull.

One day I hope to make it to your beautiful Arkansas, so I can explore some of the sites you have told me about.

I know you have done a lot of research on this article. If my memory serves me, you have visited this natural wonder. The photos are great.

Your topic is coming along nicely. You are doing a great job. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for sharing this mysterious cave with us. I really enjoyed my visit this morning.

» Renie_Burghardt - Blanchard Springs Cavern

Hi there, Bertha! I have visited Blachard Springs Cavern, and it's a truly awesome sight. In fact, that's my favorite area in Arkansas. I love Mountain View, and would like to live there, if only it wouldn't be so much trouble to move! The area is not far from me, so I usually go every year, and always think of at least getting a mountain cabin there. But haven't done it yet. Oh well...maybe one day.

I enjoyed the article, and the pictures are great! Thank you. Take care.

Renie

» Dubh_Sidhe - Caves

Hi there, Bert! (I borrowed from Mary). I do love your article on caves. My middle daughter and her husband will be going to Arkansas for their wedding trip. They will be at a Bed and Breakfast Ranch--forget the name. Anyway, I noticed in the information that there are caves to explore in addition to horseback riding etc.

I am such a worry-wart, so the first thing I thought of was snakes!

Your pictures are really great. Love them.

Hi there friend, yeap, you are right, I have done a lot of research on this cavern. It really fascinates me. I've visited it twice and both time I've taken both tours. The first is handicap accessible but the second is more difficult. I don't think I could make it now and I would love to be able to. They've opened a third level but you have to be a certified scuba diver to take that one. I guess that leaves me out. If you ever make it down this way, let me know, I'll make arrangements for a tour.

Oh Renie, you must get a cabin and spend some time in those mountains. We did one summer and it was the best time of my life. Blanchard is gorgeous. The camping area is so nice. Have you seen the rushing water that comes out of the cave? They have really made that area beautiful with all the wild flowers and trees and bridges. I am always fascinated with the history of these caves. As long as I can walk upright in them I don't mind the caves; electric lighting helps too.

Hi Virginia, I know about snakes and I don't like them either. The caverns I've ever visited are well lighted and there are tour guides. Since Blanchard Caverns is a living cave, they have walk ways made with railings so you can't touch any of the formations or fall off the trail. It is very safe. Believe me when I say, I would not enter a cave that was not well lighted or without a tour guide. I don't recommend anyone to go caving without first hand knowledge of the cave. So your kids would, I am sure, be safe. Take care and don't worry.

In response to message posted by Mountain_lady:

Bert,

One of these days I am going to get to Arkansas and we will make it a point to visit Blanchard Caves. I have been through the caves in Ohio and they are spectacular. One of them even has an underground lake. I loved the tours and am sure I would love the ones in Arkansas as well.

Take care my friend. Hope you are able to do some gardening this week.

I remember seeing signs to this but never did go when we visited Arkansas. Your description and photos are so vivid - it looks like a beauty.

I think caves are fascinating. But I'm with you, not into dark caves or "spelunking!"

Hi Jerri, no, my sister and brother and I were talking about that this morning. Linda and Randy has gone spelunking but I guess I'm too much of a chicken. There is a cave east of here called "Devil's Den" that the forest service has for spelunking. But you won't find me doing that.
Blanchard Springs Cavern is so gorgeous, it's not like being in a cave at all. It is huge, no tight places anywhere. The formations are really undescribable. There is one room called the "ghost room" and the way they have the lighting it looks like the formations are going to say "boo" right at you. If you ever get the chance, go visit the cave. Till later....

» Dubh_Sidhe - Christmas Gift Exchange

In trying to decide which of your past articles to bring forward, I decided on Caves, not only because I enjoyed it, but because we are hearing so much, today, about caves.

I wish a Merry Christmas to you and yours, Bert, and it has been a pleasure knowing you this year.
I have learned a lot about Arkansas and I must thank you.
