» S_Champ - terminology

jazakiallahu khayran, for another good piece about Islamic architecture.

some questions of curiousity and engineering:

in the context of the referenced article, what might be some definitions of the following:

-- portico

-- arcade

-- nave

-- bay

-- squinche

and | or:
would there be any recommended web-links for a good architectural dictionary or encyclopedia?

also:

-- what exactly did you mean by "hypostyle"?

-- an exclamation:

the coverings over the whole plaza (bays? courtyard?) area
( http://www.suite101.com/files/topics/420... )

...with the whole complex covering more than 26,000 square meters (more than 6 acres) (+ | -)

... that's something to behold, even on "the web"!

» AliaHas - definitions

I forget sometimes that not everybody is familiar with all those architectural terms. Thanks for reminding me! I'll either try to link those words to their definitions or add those definitions to the bottom of the article as a reference. There are some sites where you can look up architectural terms. If I don't have one listed under my links I'll be sure to add one.

» AliaHas - new link added

I just added a link to my list of favorite links which is a site where you can look up general architectural terms. Here is the address:
http://shiva.pub.getty.edu/aat_browser/
I'm not sure how good it is with Islamic arch. terms but it should work fine for any generic terms.
