<img src="/files/topics/902/files/smiley111x111.gif" width=111 height=111 alt="Big Smiley" align=right>I am glad that we have you here at Suite101 writing on your chosen topic at this time when there is so much misunderstanding of the subject of Arab Culture and Identity.

Your given name "Aida" means "helper," because it is derived from the French word "aide" which means help, and you are certainly a help to us to bring understanding among people of different cultures. Thank you, Aida!

i wish to Aida a happy birthday and a long life. However,i would like to comment on the meaning of the name Aida.It is true that the word "aide" in french means "help" as biogardener mentioned but why do we resort to french to explain the meaning. After all, french is a new a language when we compare it Arabic. It is only five hundred years -old.Arabic is more than 2000 years-old.I would suggest that "Aida"is an adjective or noun.It means "someone who is returning from somewhere".It comes from the verb in arabic"aada" .It means To "return".(Abdelwahab: a french H.S.teacher but interested in Arab language and culture)
