Can USA do the same thing with Irak?

» abdel_52 - Is it democracy or dictatorship? To end up the so-called terrorism after 11 of Sept 2001,USA sent troops to Afghanistan and installed a provisional government composed of different ethnic groups. This is great for it represents the will of the people. Now USA is planning to do the same thing with Irak. This is also a good gesture if it puts the same thing in practice for it will get rid of a dictator like Sadam Hussain. However,if USA is honest about this goal, promoting democaracy in the Arab world it should also get rid of the rest of arab dictators from the Atlantic to the Golfe.Choosing to get rid of particular arab leaders because they are not popular with USA foreign policies is not wise.Does a democratically elected arab government will lead to friendly realtions with USA? The answer is no for obvious reasons.-- posted by abdel_52 » Lawhawk - Re: Is it democracy or dictatorship? In response to message posted by abdel_52:I'm not sure that the answer to that last question is no and the reasons aren't as obvious as you suggest. Getting rid of the thugs and despots who rule the Syria, Iraq, and Iran (I know there is a democratically elected government, but it cannot accomplish reforms without the approval of the clerics who are in true control of the country) would allow those countries to begin the process of economic and political reform. These are countries that have not seen democracy, nor are there any traditions of democracy in those countries. That would make things difficult. That said, there's a definite need among the people to move forward and improve their economic well-being. Democratic government can achieve that - especially if the UN, US and EC are involved in providing support and guidance. Imposing a particular foreign policy is not necessary though and if there are sufficient constitutional safeguards coupled with government protections so that coup d'etat's are unlikely, democracy has a chance to develop. We owe it to the people of the region to improve the economic wellbeing when their own governments have failed to do so. That failure has led to dissent, terrorism, and tremendous loss of life and the cycle must be broken once and for all. -- posted by Lawhawk » truearab - Re: Re: Is it democracy or dictatorship? I don't believe USA has any aim in promoting democracy in particular in the Arab World when its economic interests are not under threat. It rather prefers the present political situation. The reason is any democratically elected Arab government will be hostile to USA's economic and political hegemony. It means an end to cheap petrol and the occupation of Palestine. The two have unquestionable support among Arabs from the Atlantic to the Golfe. This has been proven by a survey conducted by an american agency for the Bush's administration in the streets of Rabat,Cairo,Damascus,Amman etc...Consequently,USA has to choose between greed and democracy.-- posted by truearab » Syl70 - Is it democracy or dictatorship? All American presidents had their war. Now it's Mr. Bush who are choosing the place and the time of this disgusting crime. If it will not demand the lost of American lives, 69% of American people is agree with the war against the Iraq (Washington Post, ABC). They are able to kill if they will not be kill. The history is the back: 200.000 of innocent people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was kill "in order to save the lives of thousands and thousands of young Americans" (Public Papers of the presidents, H.S. Truman). I ask American people: Where is the famous: Love, no War! Who will be the next choose of the next president of the "great" USA? Who will be the next incommodious and so danger for USA? I believe that democracy must arise from the people, it can't be imposed! -- posted by Syl70 » truearab - Re: irak I would like to draw the readers'attention to the feeling of Irakis in particular and Arabs' in general vis-a-vis USA's occupation of the heart of Arab civilisation. It does not matter what USA's justification to invade Irak,we arabs from the Atlantic to the golf are not just angry at what happened to our brother irakis but hostile to Arab leaders who assisted USA in its aggression. We arabs believe that Arab regimes have been historically imposed to us by the West.Indeed,no one of them has been elected democratically by the people. The West in particular USA have been aware of it but are not interested in doing something positive. They have been supporting arab dictators who serve their interests for many years. The problem with Americans is that they have good relation with Arab regimes but not with true arabs. My advice to the White House "get out of Irak as soon as possible .Don't be stubborn like Sadam. If you are really sincere about promoting democracy in the arab world start with your Aab friends such as the Golf states, egypt Morocoo etc...Once democracy is achieved in these areas Irak under Sadam would not last for a month.Imposing democracy by force is not the right thing to do .It could lead only to more hostolity.Irak is a good example-- posted by truearab » truearab - Re: Re: irak I am amazed that the americans have supported their presidents in injust wars in particular Iraq's.Have they been misled by the media by giving them wrong pictures about the real world or because they don't care about the consequences of wars.If one looks at the daily american human casulties in Irak one may think that is enough for the americans to say "enough is enough".However, they have been again misled by Buch that the war in Irak would be over in a few weeks or months. He has been trying to tell his people that only bathists and arabs are resisting american occupation. The truth of the matter it is ordinary Irakis who maight have suffered oppression under sadam's regime who are conducting military operations against the american everyday. It is very hard for the americans in the street to understand this .-- posted by truearab » truearab - Re: Re: irak I am amazed that the americans have supported their presidents in injust wars in particular Iraq's.Have they been misled by the media by giving them wrong pictures about the real world or because they don't care about the consequences of wars.If one looks at the daily american human casulties in Irak one may think that is enough for the americans to say "enough is enough".However, they have been again misled by Buch that the war in Irak would be over in a few weeks or months. He has been trying to tell his people that only bathists and arabs are resisting american occupation. The truth of the matter it is ordinary Irakis who maight have suffered oppression under sadam's regime who are conducting military operations against the american everyday. It is very hard for the americans in the street to understand this .-- posted by truearab
