In response to Oscar sulking after killing my other oscar posted by 4inchtigeroscar:

I am wondering???? Why on earth would you leave any fish with a bully. I have had Oscars for years and anytime I get a bully that is hurting or scaring up anothers, the bully gets removed or the injured Oscar gets removed. Instead you wait until flushing is the only option. I am not being critical but honestly there is a lot more you could have dont to prevent the death of your Oscar. As far as the Oscar still alive goes he may just be stressed or lonely now and adding another Oscar to the tank before he gets too big may in fact help him but may also make him very aggressive. You may want to check for other obvious signs of stress like ick (small pimple like spots) or even hole in the head causes floating or crashing. look for tiny pin like holes in the head somewhere between the eyes. And for future refrence if you have a bully take him out of the tank for a while if you have no means to do this then maybe having fish as a pet is not your thing. Once again im not be judgemental but if you are a serious Aquarium owner you will have already been setup for these problems. And if you want to be a serious Aquarium owner then you will need a couple of tanks until you get the main tank started. Just a 10 gallon will do to seperate them or maybe even use it for fry if you ever need to. I have three tanks, 2 125 gallons and 1 55 gallon. The 125's have Oscars in 1...3 pair 2 albino pair and 1 tiger pair. the 55 galon has a assortment of Oscar, Frontosa, Red Zebra, And Dolphin Cichlids. These tanks have over the years just accumulated in my home because I had to live with my fish and not allow them to live around me. In other words I had to do a lot over the years to make them comfortable. And you will to. good luck.

In response to New fish tank posted by chung_wong:

My 125 Gallon tanks have a Penguin 350gph 4 filter duel bio wheel and a external duel bio wheel magnum 350 canister filter. Plus I use a 61O GPH Powerheadad for proper oxygenation. This is plenty of filtration as long as you keep the Carbon container full and keep the Carbon fresh. i have noticed over the years that the Carbon is very important in water clarity. this is from me to you not from something i have read or have been told. after 25 years of being a tank owner i am somewhat of an expert when it comes to clear and clean water. everyone who sees my tanks for the first time always says "my god look how clear the water is" if you would like a picture of a tank i have had setup for 5 years now let me know i can send you pictures of the filtration and the content just to give you ideas on what you might need or want. it helps to see what others have done. it gives you a good start. chrislgilbert@msn.com

I've been having my Tiger Oscar for a couple months. We have just changed him to a new tank. The tank before had gravel at the bottom and rocks, i was wondering do they have to have gravel at the bottom?

In response to can i do this posted by jonny_rottin:

we raised a baby tiger oscar to the point that he could not fit in our tank anymore and now we are raising a baby tiger and a baby albino and with all three fish we fed them feeder goldfish from wal mart 28 cents a piece and they only have to be smaller than the oscar and they love it we have recently set up our own feeder fish tank and you can feed them feeder fish about 3 times a week with feeding them the pellets they really enjoy it as a treat i think

we bought our albino and tiger oscars at the same time they were the only 2 in the tank at the pet store we have had them about 3 months now and the albino has grown signifigantly bigger than the tiger (they were both the same size when we bought them) and seems to almost groom the tiger oscar as if a cat would groom another cat and i was told by the pet store recently that the bigger is probably the male and if i am not mistaken if she gets pregnant i have to get her into a pregnant tank right away or they will eat the babies
