» KristineD_2 - Missing from your article I would like to point out a significant ommision in your article. You failed to mention Clinch Valley College of the University of Virginia. This College has been located in Wise County, Va since 1954 and has grown significantly over the last decade. CVC offers a 4 year program with degrees in areas such as Education, Business, History, Psychology, Social Sciences, Sciences and more. Many of their graduates have gone on to make significant contribution to the region in both growth and accomplishments. Graduates can be found as close as the local family resturant owner and manager and as far as state government. With the new "industry" of prison management being located in the SW Virginia area, CVC has again come to the aide of the region by beginning programs to train prision facility managers and staff. Please, while there are other nationally know University's in the region, do not discount the contribution Clinch Valley College will continued to make in growth and opportunities for the citizens of the Appalachia region. Thank you, -- posted by KristineD_2 » GKCruey - Clinch Valley College Unfortunately, I could not mention everyone in the article on education. There are 70 or more institution which serve the area at the community college level in Appalachia. The article focused on the role community colleges play in (especially) technical job training. While I agree that Clinch Valley is a pretty respectable school, it is not a community college, but a four-year liberal arts institution; the Commonwealth of Virginia places it above the community college level and places restriction on community colleges to prevent them from recruiting potentional CVC students. At least that's my understanding after 15 months of covering education in Virginia for the Bluefield Daily Telegraph... Clinch Valley College will be featured in an article later this year for their work in an area of history which particularly interests me: Melungeon Studies. CVC has done excellent work in that area. -- posted by GKCruey
