» Jo Murphy - Australian verandas

In Autralia the veranda is the hub of activity for the family.
For us it is about heat. Getting into the shade but out of the house. With the invention of airconditioning it has become less so. But I think the Aussie land of the 'great out doorsish' type thinking means that we as a nation couldn't even dream of coping with what you all seem to call 'cabin fever'
Crafts thrive on our verandas because the tendency is too hang everything.
  • Hammocks,
  • Pots
  • Shade weavings
  • Beaded hangings
  • windchimes
  • Some places have gnomes and gargoyles every where and the such like.

We than have landscaping kinda aimed at the verandas such as rockeries and fountains, tile art etc.
Personally I love verandas and they conjour up all kinds of nastalgic memories of craft afternoons and scultpural happenings.
Thanks for the article,
Jo
