The Potteries of New England, Part V: Low Art Tile WorksRead the article this discussion is about
This archived discussion is "read only". « Previous 1 2 Next » » Carol Wallace - Nature tiles I always wondered how that was done - the intaglio effect from a leaf. I have a planter that used that technique - it's not a Low - but I have always marveled at the depth the potter managed to get from something that I know isn't nearly that thick in reality. Now at least I have a clue!-- posted by Carol Wallace » lowtiles - Re: Re: What fun it would be Hello.I collect LOW Art Tile and I'm just wondering if you have purchaced the clock casing, or just "found" it at a shop, or someplace? I would be interested in it, if it is for sale, either by you or someone else. Thanks, Steve. I don't expect she will be back here and will see your question. Have you done a Google or eBay search for similar items? -- posted by Barbara Bell » ratc1890 - Robertson Art Tile Company We have a Tile Heritage Foundation grant to write a history of the Robertson Art Tile Company in Morrisville, PA, which was founded by George W. Robertson in 1890, after he left Low Art Tile. If anyone has any information to share on this company, we would appreciate your contacting us. Our family ran this company for almost 50 years, but we started our research with very little information since the company had been sold out of the family before it closed in 1982. We are willing to share information with interested people, and if you have Robertson tiles to sell or would like an ID on a tile, we will be glad to assist you. I have two left (one here and the other is broken) From the little I could gather (memory serving), I did some homework years ago...with the LA County Museum on Tiles. Apparently one of the sons (Initials RC or BC) on the tile, handpainted a few of these. Here are some pics: <img src="http://www.erols.com/artefacts/robertson..." Can you tell me who the son was, what the date is (I'm figuring around the time of Matisse early 1930's because that's whom they look inspired by) and any other info you might have. Value? email: artefacts@erols.com Thanks... -- posted by studiom » nvitalino16 - Re: Robertson Art Tile Company Hi!I'm desperate for some information on a product. I have a pair of vases with dragon head and necks for handles. They are about a foot and a half high. They are orange and green mainly. There is a little bluish purple in them also. I can take pictures if you're still around and checking this site. I would like to sell these eventually and I currently have 1800 on them. Too little? Too much? Feel free to contact me in response to this. vitanb98@yahoo.com. Thank you so much! That's the most reliable means of identifying pottery. They sound vaguely Asian, perhaps "occupied Japan" or late Chinese export. Pictures would be very helpful. I'll check back here in a few days, Nina. -- posted by Barbara Bell » nvitalino16 - Re: Re: Re: Robertson Art Tile Company Yes, I know that they are Low Art Tiles. They do not say anything about Japan. I will do my best to take photos.
