» Wen - McCoy!
I love McCoy pottery. I have slews of it all around my house. I have to admit to not being a very organized collector of it. I have about thirty McCoy planters in different shapes and sizes...but all in shades of green. I pick them up at every show, flea markets, and garage saling and enjoy this hobby as they are still reasonably priced. I have a few cookie jars in storage...but my kitchen is so small that there is no room for them! I have a smattering of a bunch of different pieces, both large and small, that collected my interest. I have a few Loy-Nel Olympia (marked) pieces which I cherish. I have one piece in the Jewel pattern which is exquisite...and in storage that is my most valuable piece. I was attempting to determine what my favorite piece was, and I just cannot narrow it down! The one piece I really want is the adorable cookie jar with the two kittens on it. I am still looking for it at a reasonable price.
So McCoy fans, what is your favorite item and what piece would you want to have above all others?

» Margot - My Favorite piece
My favorite pece s usualy the newest addition to my collection. My most prized piece is probably my Dalmations in a rockingchair cookie jar. I got it when I was two. The movie 101dalmations had just come out and my mother bought it for $8. It is now worth $350-$395.Wen, I too have loads of planters in shades of green. I'll bet our homes look alot alike. I have McCoy everywhere, and unlike most serious collectors I use most of them. Except for a rare cuspidor that I bought for $12 and is worth hundreds. Besdes, there isn't much spitting in my house, that i know of ;-)

I love the Dalmatian cookie jar. It is on my list of "gotta haves" too. Sometime soon in the future. I still see it every know and then at shows.I also use my planters. Many have plants in them. I use plastic pots and drainage plates so as to not harm the McCoy planters and give the plants good drainage. But I also use the planters as receptacles for "stuff"...jewelry in the bedroom, office supplies, paint swatches in the craft room, my Christmas decorations since I still have them up, etc.
I bet you are right and that our houses look very similar collection wise. I have a lot of McCoy, a huge collection of green Haeger, some Roseville, some Rookwood, and a few assorted other art pottery pieces. I have a huge china closet, which is already full, with my Noritake Azalea china, flint glass goblets, Fostoria Americana glassware, tea sets, and hand painted rose dishes. I have another china closet full of Royal Doulton pieces that I have collected and yet another all full of Disneyana. Then of course there is assorted other suff all over the place. Between original artwork, over 4,000 books, my huge penguin collection, and all the rest of our assorted clutter, it is amazing we can even move around our house. We bought this house with the thought that it would be so large and spacious, and we are already ready for a much bigger house! My parents keep asking me when I am going to remove the 45 boxes of antique books from their storage area...not to mention all of the china and glassware I still have there. Oh well, we will be building built in shelves and cabinets all along our whole family room which will add a lot of organized storage. Every room in our house would be lined with book shelves if we had our way!

» Barbara Nicholson Bell - Cookie Jars
Well, ladies, how nice to talk with you on a favorite subject! You know, our houses must be so much alike, yet so reflective of our different tastes...it would be fun to visit each other, we're not so far apart.Have you gone to the Sunshine Collectibles site?
I saw the Dalmations cookie jar there, I think. It's a great place to visit. Let me know if you find what you're looking for. Also check out Pottery Auction. Nice people, by the way.
Planters and jardinieres abound in my house, mostly Weller, Roseville, etc. I'm going to do articles on each of them this spring.
