Hi Stacey, I believe animals have souls and they do, indeed, go to Heaven! St. Francis is my favorite saint, and I loved reading about him. Thank you for a touching article. I enjoyed it. Hope you're doing well, Stacey! Renie

I thank you for informing us that Pope John Paul II issued a proclamation in 1990 that animals have souls. I was not aware of this. I also found the story of St. Francis and the swallows fascinating. More on the subject of animal's souls and spirits may be found at http://www.all-creatures.org/bookallcrea... particularly chapters 3,4, and 5. Bible language translation is quite interesting.

One of my most cherished belongings is a St. Francis medal that my mother left to me in her will. If heaven does not have animals, it would not be heaven for her. I am sure she is waiting and watching over me along with all the beloved animals that both she and I have had to let go.

I enjoyed this article very much. I have always believed that animals have souls and that there has to be a special place for them when they pass on. Thanks for the touching and informative article.

I accidentally hit the wrong button in my earlier message. I just want to thank you for the informative article. Of course, I'd believe animals have souls no matter what anyone said. You might be interested in a favorite anecdote of mine. When I was attending Catholic University in Washington, I met an adorable little nun who happened to like cats. She noticed my hand were covered with scratches (my cat, Alice, liked to play rough) and said, "I'll bet you have a cat." I launched into a long recital of how wonderful Alice was, ending with, "She's almost human." Then my little nun said in a stern voice, "You should never say an animal is almost human." When I asked why, she said, "Humans are tainted with original sin. Animals are pure and untainted. If any creatures have souls and will go to Heaven, it's the animals."
