of hanging out in a slaughterhouse to learn bone structure! Perhaps they did not have natural history museums then that served the purpose then?

It's a shame so many women were repressed in that period of time, but it sounds like Rosa had wonderful parents who encouraged her artistic bent. Having a parent talented enough to draw animal pictures to teach her letters reminded me of my son-in-law who does a lot of drawing for my granddaughter.

I enjoyed this artist portrait.

I know that visiting animal slaughterhouses would not be my idea of a wonderful way to spend an afternoon but I guess it serves to show how dedicated Rosa was to learning her craft. The prejudice that women faced in society placed them under pressure to prove themselves equal to if not superior to their male colleagues.
