Hi Jen, if you lived closer, I'd get you to paint some of my pets! I guess painting pet portraits is much like painting people portraits, in many ways. And I imagene the satisfied customers far outnumber the less satisfied ones. I love the pictures you show. You are very talented.

Enjoyed the article. Take care. Renie

Thanks for your lovely comments Renie. From talking to other animal artists it's a common problem which is why so many of them dread commissions while longing for them at the same time.

I'm sure it takes great talent to capture the character and personality of animals just as it does with humans. I loved your rabbit portrait.

Thanks Joy. That rabbit portrait was actually commissioned as part of a calendar for the Rabbit Council of New Zealand. I think it took me two weeks of fairly solid work to finish.

I loved your touching moments of the very happy pet owners on receipt of their pet portraits. So, tell me Jen what is the going rate approx. for some of your pet portraits?

Amazing to read some of the success stories. I imagine it's all worth it when things come out right. And I bet there's a taker for those that don't please some folks, anyway.

This must be a delightful way to make a living, Jen. You are certainly a gifted artist.

Always enjoy your writing, too.

Jerri

It depends Betty on what type of surface I'm working on. Paintings I now charge $300-400NZ for, rocks can vary from $20-50NZ but I have been told that my prices are too low. I need an agent!

Hi Suzanne. Well I do pointillist black and white work, acrylic and watercolor painting, rock painting and I also do pressed flower work although I guess that counts as a craft.
