I wonder how the Roman Emperor Nero could play an instrument and sing while Rome was being burned. He loved the Arts and was a singer at heart, but his soul was darkened with the acts of murder that he committed against those close to him. The Roman Empire was an Empire of slaves, legions and senators. The Legions controlled foreign lands such as Britain and in triumphs the barbarians were paraded. The slaves could win their freedom in the Gladiator shows for they were looked upon by the mob with great admiration such as the Hollywood stars are looked upon today. The mob was thirsting for blood and the show of different animals being killed in the arena added to their lustful taste.
