» metzboy - The hardware issue

After reading John's article re: running AmigaForever
on an Intel laptop, I had to agree with him.
(I even joined suite101.com to reply) I've wanted
for as long as I can remember a portable Amiga,
but that's never happened (at the minute, I'd
rather like a new desktop Amiga forom Amiga Inc,
but that's besides the point). I'm also very
interested in emulation, especially Spectrum
emulation, and if I can accept the benefits of
running ASp (a Spectrum emulator) on my Amiga and
appreciating all of my pseudo rubber-keyed computers'
nuances, I can definately apply the same principle
to running AmigaForever on an Intel laptop if it
emulates well. I appreciate the way I am able to
customise my Amiga OS and the way it doesn't
hog the system. If Alan's Amiga-emulated laptop
does that, then I'm pleased for him as that's
exactly what I wanted to have when I was travelling
in Canada last year, but to no avail.
Thanks for reading, this was my first input onto
any kind of net-based discussion.

» MetalJoe - Of laptops and Amigas...

Thanks :-)

The emulation has worked extremely well so far on a laptop, though the true test will be when I get Internet services such as mail running over the emulated bsdsocket.library (the reason why the Linux version of UAE wasn't good enough). The article has had a good response with quite a few people sharing their own experiences of running an "Amiga laptop". There certainly looks to be the demand - Fleecy and Bill take note!

The closest the Amiga had was the PAWS luggables, which were conversion kits (I believe, though they may have had pre-built systems). Luggables was definitely the word as the Amiga chipset isn't suited for use in portables where battery life is important. Anyone know if PAWS development is still going? I'm pretty sure they had to move on, sadly :-(
