November Box and OS 3.5 Developments
This archived discussion is "read only".
» MetalJoe - November Box update Latest news is that the 'November Box' has been delayed for a couple of months, for various reasons. The release of the new Amigas has NOT been affected - they are still on course for the end of 1999.One reason for the delay has been the announcement of OS3.5. In order to ensure sufficient respurces for OS3.5, as well as refine the November Box system further, Amiga Inc. need slightly more time, which is fair enough. Regards, John -- posted by MetalJoe » MetalJoe - AmigaOS and QNX? Much as I'm loathe to start/spread rumours, I feel this is an interesting one...I've heard from two independant sources (who are not affiliated with Amiga Inc. or Amiga International in any way) that QNX, the realtime OS, has been chosen as the development partner for AmigaOS 5.0. Both Convergence International and OS News have reported the partnership. However, importantly, neither Amiga Inc/International nor QNX have made an official announcement. Until such an announcement is made, please treat this is hearsay - much like the recent Gateway PowerPC Amiga which caused much confusion and amusement. If anyone has any information on this AmigaOS/QNX alliance, please let me know. Next Month (unless we have a major announcement) the editorial will be on the Video Toaster Regards, John -- posted by MetalJoe » MetalJoe - AmigaOS and QNX Well, it certainly looks to be the case that Amiga Inc. and QNX have teamed up to assist with production of AmigaOS 5.0... though I'm concerned that the announcement has been another case of "leak and see" rather than a proper announcement from official quarters on official sites. Not even QNX has put up an announcement so far, despite being linked to from Amiga.org's news section.QNX is an excellent realtime OS, embedded systems kernel. It's compact, efficient and the perfect partner to provide the core of the new AmigaOS. You can download a demo with the OS, full Internet suite and GUI which fits on a single floppy. Looks like the Video Toaster article will be delayed to the new year, to fit news of this exciting development! Regards, -- posted by MetalJoe
