want to start new life in Cote D'Azur area

» val2004 - need guidance on starting anew in France My family and I are at a crossroads in our lives.I've been a succesful software engineer until July 15th this year when I was laid off. Since then I have been looking for another job unsuccesfully. As I have already moved a few times by now always looking for a job, I decided that I need to break away from this cycle and start anew in France. I've been in love in France since I can remember. Both my wife and I can speak French good enough so we can be understood (grammar part needs work). We have a 6 yr old boy and a 3 yr old girl that have been taking French for about a year now. I have a masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia and my wife also has a master in Psychotherapy: Movement and Dance Therapy from Hahnemann University also in Philaldelphia. Can anyone guide/encourage/offer suggestions to us on what the best course of action would be to make this happen? I am prepared to work in a different field if that becomes necessary... Any help is appreciated, Valentin -- posted by val2004 » Barbara Bell - Re: need guidance on starting anew in France In response to message posted by val2004:Valentin, have you started researching this at all? You should begin with any online French government sites, for residency requirements, immigrancy laws, work permits, etc. When you have a good list of specific questions based on that information, contact your nearest French consulate and ask for assistance. In addition to up-to-date passports and proof of good health, you'll probably have to provide a great deal of other personal information. Perhaps letters of reference as well. My vague memory of the French laws (and many other countries) is that they accept people whose occupations are not being adequately filled by their own citizens. In times of high unemployment both in Europe and in the US, this may be difficult. Good luck! -- posted by Barbara Bell
