I READ THE BOOK FIRST, THEN I SAW THE MOVIE. TONI MORRISON IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE AUTHORS, BUT I DIDN'T QUITE UNDERSTAND BELOVED.

I hope the essay helped you understand a bit. If you'd like more information, try Sparknotes or Classic Notes (online), which both break books down, chapter by chapter.

Morrison is good, and I saw the movie too, after reading Beloved. The problem with movies is that they cut big portions in lieu of time. Case-in-point: John Patterson's Kiss The Girls. Also, Stephen King's Pet Semetary.
