Hi,

I happened to stumble across this conversation when i jokingly googled my name for a friend. My name is Ariel and my father is the former beau of Sylvia Plath of which you spoke. My namesake is the book of poems to which you refer in your posting.

It should be noted that my father indeed was brilliant but Few may know he was plagued by a lifetime of suffering with unipolar depression; hence his "failure to reach his potential" as you so eloquently put it. My father was a unique soul, brilliant to a fault and tortured beyond belief by his illness. Please keep that in mind when you judge his life in the future.

Respectfully,

Ariel Lotz
