Hi again Gretchen. My Master's thesis (American Studies, William & Mary, 1992) was entitled "The Craft of Portraiture in 18th-Century America." Basically it was a comparative analysis of painted and written portraits. I compared the technique, style, goals, etc. of portraits by John Singleton Copley to 18th-century American elegiac poetry. Aren't you glad you asked?? smile
