Alzheimer's and the Aluminum DebateRead the article this discussion is about
This archived discussion is "read only". « Previous 1 2 Next » » Karen_Largent - Dear Gerald, I know you are serious. In my 4th article on Alzhei Dear Gerald, I know you are serious. In my 4th article on Alzheimer's drugs, I mentioned a study done by Dutch researchers which showed that smokers were less likely to get AD. It seems such an odd piece of research but there is some truth to it. Hopefully there will be more research done on this subject soon. Thanks for mentioning it and send your info along, I would be interested to read it!!Karen Largent

A Karen, I have sent the data and hope it proves useful to you.As I explained, I am 72 years of age and know the tradgedy of Alzheimers, not only on the patient but upon his wife and children who are helpless to render comfort. In my father's case, it was as though he was mentally living his life in reverse, until at the end he was a child in an unfamiliar environment surrounded by strangers. They do appear to be living in reverse. It is very difficult to watch a loved one go through this terrible illness. It takes it's toll on the family and caregivers as well. We must hope that someday a cure or better treatment will be discovered. Thanks for sending the very interesting informationKaren Largent

I learned in grade VII that aluminum, along with other metals, has damaging effects. Seeing we ingest part of the metal every time we use aluminum pots for cooking acidic food, I have always refused to knowingly eat food prepared in them.Whether it contributes to Alzheimer's or not is irrelevant to me. It doesn't do any good in our system, so I avoid it. -- posted by biogardener » Karen_Largent - Traute, you are probably wise in your choice There are so many things in our environment these days that have the potential to harm. Traute, do you cook in a cast iron skillet? We get small doses of iron from them. I guess it's all in what we are taught, what our local, family and country customs are that set us on our road to good health or poor health. In the end, we are all responsible for ourselves I think. I know the harm I do to myself by smoking, I also like things like bacon and red meat also. It was so much easier in the past I think when there was no pollution, no chemical pesticides, no irradiation, etc. Traute, do you think the resurgance of interest in all things natural is our way of trying to get back to the simpler ways of life, not to mention the healthier ways?-- posted by Karen_Largent » Karen_Largent - A good question! And a question I cannot answer, I will have to do more research on that. The aluminum debate still goes on, it is even considered unsafe by many to use products such as deodorant with aluminum in them. I will try to update my information and look further into the aluminum and Alzheimer's connection.-- posted by Karen_Largent » biogardener - I choose cooking utensils carefully I have all my life listened to advise on natural remedies and have collected the wisdom of families and generations, while the other members of my family are not that careful about preserving good health. When we came to this country, everyone made fun of us, especially me, but it never bothered me. Peer pressure has never influenced me one way or the other. And when people get no more answers to their problems from the medical profession, they come to me, the person they used to laugh at.That is probably the reason for the resurgence of natural remedies. Medical science does not have the answers to the ills of this century. So people go back to the origins of medicine. Hippocrates was my kind of physician, and he is the father of medicine. My cooking pots and frying pans are all enamelled cast iron from Europe. They are the greatest! Very expensive, but I got the original set at a deep discount price and have added pieces to it which I was able to get second hand but in new condition. And if the enamel gets chipped, I turn them into flower pots. I don't mind high quality stainless steel with a heavy cast iron bottom, but I prefer what I have. Corningware is great, too, because it is glass. I make my herb teas in it. -- posted by biogardener » max_read - Alzheimer's Disease WHile a doctoral student at the U of Texas I investigated the "literatures of medicine" looking for cures and preventatives or amelioratives (helpful substances). I found several studies which led me to develop my own hypothesis of a cure. I tested the substance on myself for six months and then on my mother. There was an overnight improvement in three symptoms. I report on my findings at Chi!: http://www.computerhealthinfo.com/ Max Dalrymple, suite101.com Xeriscape.P.S.I believe the metal salts may be more harmful than aluminum. I also believe that if the Alzheimer's victim hasn't been around mercury her symptoms are reverable. One medical finding was that dead cells occur in only 2% of the cases and in those case there was mercury damage. -- posted by max_read « Previous 1 2 Next » Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
