» Gaia - Being thankful

So many people complain about what they don't have and forget all the good things and loving family and friends they do have. Alzheimers patient's lose memory not feelings and showing love is something they do respond to. You it it right on the nose, good article.

» Karen_Largent - Thanks Debbie

I wasn't sure if people would see what I was trying to get across. It's so hard for caregivers to see beyond the day to day struggles and frustrations. I was partly using my own experience of losing my father to a horrible auto accident in which he died violently. I never had a chance to say so many things, or to help him in any way. The event sent me into the nursing profession. I hope people take my article in the spirit it was meant and not take offense. Thanks for reading Debbie!

» biogardener - It can be a blessing!

My mother suffered from Alzheimer's for 30 years before she went to be with her Lord last month at age 91. She had been in excellent physical health and able to enjoy most of her favorite activities as long as I was there to reassure her constantly.

She did not have an easy life. She lived through two world wars in a country where the action took place, but she always talked to me about all the wonderful things which the Lord had done for her. I kept up that tradition when she got sick and pretty soon, all the negatives were erased from her memory.

My mother got very upset when her brother visited her and reminded her of some of the negatives. Unfortunately I was not present to prevent the conversation, but I made sure it didn't happen a second time.

My mother was the greatest inspiration of my life and I wrote a tribute to her on the occasion of her homegoing. That tribute has encouraged many people.

» Karen_Largent - A wonderful tribute Traute

What a lovely tribute to someone who must have been a very dynamic person. You have been fortunate to have had her to guide and teach you. Many people do not have that type of relationship with their mother. The meaning of your name is quite lovely. You had your mother with you a very long time with her Alzheimer's. You deserve much credit and praise for caring so compassionately for her.
