I am looking for information regarding family members who have been physically or sexually abused as children, and are now in the position of being the primary caregiver to the abusing parent – particularly a parent who has Alzheimer’s or some other form of dementia. Can you tell me if there is any literature available on this subject?

I don't know at the moment, but I will do some searching and see what I can find. I know that would be an extremely difficult situation, so very hard for the caregiver lovingly care for someone who had abused them.

I have found these:

http://www.apa.org/pi/aging/eldabuse.html

It seems that caregivers who were abused as by their parents as children might be more prone to abuse their elderly parents.

I seem to remember reading somewhere on Denise Cooper's Web site that her mother had abused her. Yet Denise, even dying of lung cancer, became her mother's caregiver. She tried to emphasize the good things about her mother, like the fact that her mother had graduated from college at age 72, rather than the sad things like the abuse.

Here's Denise's site:

I hope this helps.
