» Gary - Reg's conditions

Hi MJ,

I have to laugh about Tassie folks thinking they are cold and bleak over winter.

When we lived on top of Mount Gibralta in N.S.W.
(Southern Highlands) on a really hot sunny day during winter, we used to sit on the verandah in our layered clothing, starting with thermal neck to toes underwear, woollen shirts, two or even three jumpers on with an overcoat over this and mittens for the hands and woolly balaclavas topping off this ensemble.

This used to be the perfect climate for growing all the cold climate bulbs I was so fond of, but alas, now these bulbs and plants are just a fond memory.

cheers,

» CarolWallace - The Flip Side

I just responded to MJ's post in my own topic about plants that make you stop and take notice and how lucky she was to be able to grow so many of them. But I forget the flip side - all those things I can grow because of long, cold winters!

BTW - that zephyranthes that is not supposed to be hardy here is back and getting ready to flower - and I do believe I've found a second clump.
