Hi Gary and all,

Here's a pic of Lilium canadense (ssp/var editorum?) received from Marcus this year. I've not grown this before and it seems to be not so orange as some of the editorum pics I've seen.

Paul,

Nice flower. Looks like you got one of those bulbs producing 'orange-red blooms that may indicate some "type blood"'. How does the foliage compare with standard canadense?

Great pic Paul. is the colour as bright as it appears in your image ?? Afraid that what we get as Editorum here in Aust is a bit of a mystery. I couldnt describe it as 'red' by any stretch of the imagination. My so called editorum have only just appeared above the surface of the soil and are not looking very well so only time will tell I guesssad !

Hi Rob, Mary

My "normal" L. canadense have done very poorly - dying back almost to ground level before making any buds. The leaves on my "Editorum" seem a little wider than the species, but not much. I certainly think the one I have has the "type blood", and yes Mary, the colour in the pic is pretty true. The reverse of the petals is more striped with areas of distinct yellow on the inner three petals and the rest being that bright orange. Nothing at all like the "brick red" the books say to expect.

The main pot of L canadense hasnt appeared to this datesad . I carefully tipped out some of the soil and the bulbs appear to be ok (as far as I can tell anyway) just no signs of doing anything so who knows. This flower is on a single bulb which is in another pot nearby.
