Coffee allergy/addiction
This archived discussion is "read only". « Previous 1 2 Next » » 3kgirls - Re: Coffe allergy/addiction In response to message posted by Catrin71:I thought that I had a pregnancy rash a year ago, but now I have it again although less severe. Did it feel like your perspiration was giving you an itchy rash? My rash starts on the inside of my elbow area, underarms, under breasts, etc. I have tried discontinuing canned soft drinks (a possible cause), but it is taking forever for the rash to heal. I drink 1-3 cups of half-caff coffee every day, and I, too, do not want to face the fact that the chemicals in my coffee may be aggravating my condition. How are you now that you have stopped the caffeine? -- posted by 3kgirls » IdaSusan - Re: Coffe allergy/addiction In response to message posted by Catrin71:This is great! Searched Google and found this site. I have a feeling that this is my problem too. I have over the past several years enjoyed an occasional Latte (2 to 3 times per week) not always caffeinated. After realizing that I was spending almost $10.00 per week on cafe Lattes, I asked for and received an espresso machine for Christmas. Now I am having at least 1 or 2 Lattes(caffeinated) per day. Gradually I have been having bumps popping up around my waist, under my breasts, in my armpits, and at the inside of my elbows, mostly. Not a huge rash, but each eruption itched fiercely. 3 trips to the dermatologist later, there was no real diagnosis. I was certain that I had bugs or mites in my house. After washing all my clothes in Boraxo, the reaction seemed to abate...for two days... then I had another couple in my elbows yesterday. Caffeine or just coffee in general? Who knows? I hope that changing to decaf will stop it. We'll see.. -- posted by IdaSusan » Alisa2 - I just discovered I'm allergic to coffee too. I just discovered I'm allergic to coffee too. The itching and rash is horrible. I have no choice now but to stop drinking the stuff! It's either that or suffer the itching. Ugh.. I thought it was my BP medication that I was becoming allergic to, but no. When I stopped drinking coffee for a day the itching stopped.. I don't understand how anyone can 'suddenly' be allergic to the stuff.I wouldn't mind the rash if it didn't itch so much, but when it itches it makes the rash worse, so I have no choice but to stop! Oh.. what am I going to do.. -- posted by Alisa2 » pollyann - I'm allergic to coffee too! I thought I was going crazy! I started to have a rash on the inside of my elbows, my lower back, the back of my knees and on my hands and feet. My eyes became extremely itchy and when I cried or my eyes watered, my tears burned my eyes and where my tears touched my skin, I was left with a red, itchy rash. I also developed severe reactions to anti-inflamitories, antihistamines (seriously) and birth control at the same time. And I started to have heat rash. Then, I didn't drink coffee for about six months and all the symptoms went away (I still am to afraid to take anti-inflamitories or anti-histamines.) It's nice to know I'm not the only one! Now I have one coffee a week (tall skinny mocha) and I'm mostly ok (itchy eyes and heat rash are returning). I know I'll have to drop it all together someday. It just isn't worth it.-- posted by pollyann » katerina111 - coffee allergies I found out a few months ago that I react to certain brands of coffee, but not all. I regularly go to the big coffee houses, and have never had a problem. But I recently bought a different brand, recommended by one of the cooking magazines, and I had a horrible reaction to it. I almost went into anaphylactic shock! Does anyone know what could have caused this? Do they use different chemicals in the processing? I had a mild reaction to a popular brand a few months ago--just had anxiety and couldn't figure out why. Then I realized it was the coffee. Changed brands, no more problems. My sister called me one day and said she was climbing the walls and was so crabby. I asked what kind of coffee she was using, and it was the same one. She switched and has been fine since.-- posted by katerina111 » Atlshedd - Re: coffee allergies Katerina,What brand did you find yourself allergic to? I use Folgers and have problems where my throat feels like I'm choking and get gaggy. It happens after taking one sip of coffee. I've also had the bumps on the insides of my arms and thought it was bug bites. The Blood Drive nurse thought I had been "shooting up" due to all the spots. They must be from some allergy. What brand did you switch to? I just yesterday had a puffy face and again itchy rashes on my face and arms after indulging in Cold Coffee. Wonder if I am allergic to only Cold Coffee…anyone out there who has the same problem? -- posted by shobhaReddy » ClearGlue - coffee allergies My boyfriend claims he gets 'coffee bumps' and they are located off the side of his tummy and lower...they look like..blisters, that's the easiest way to describe them. He drinks about 10+ cups of coffee a day..his bumps dont itch or anything they are just there..any suggestions as I have not found any information on these 'coffee bumps'?-- posted by ClearGlue » sbright500 - coffee allergies In response to coffee allergies posted by katerina111:What brand did your sister switch to?
