» H2O - Read and learn about an abolitionist martyr

Captain Jonathan Walker, known as "the Man with the Branded Hand," is featured on the web site at http://www.geocities.com/brandedhand/ . Read about this amazing individual who alone endured this inhumane punishment.

The Walker family is seeking descendants of the seven slaves Capt. Walker assisted. Any information can be addressed to Alvin Oickle at mailto:oickle@juno.com to be included in the special Walker Family Reunion at Pensacola in 2002. Mr. Oickle wrote "Jonathan Walker: The Man With the Branded Hand," an excellent exposition of Walker, his times, and his act.

In response to message posted by H2O:

The seven fugitives from slavery who sailed with Captain Walker were:

Anthony Catlett

Charles Johnson

Leonard Johnson

Moses Johnson

Phillip Johnson

Harry (Henry) Scott

Silas Scott

The four Johnsons were brothers, as were the two Scotts. They were residing in Pensacola, Florida, in 1844-1845.

If anyone has any information on the descendants of these men, the Walker Family Reunion would like to invite them to the Pensacola 2000 Reunion. Contact Al Oickle at mailto:oickle@juno.com .

» H2O - The men who enslaved the seven

We are also searching for descendants of the men who claimed to own their servants. Here's the breakdown of owners:
*Byrd C. Willis - Anthony Catlett
*George Willis - Charles, Leonard, and Phillip Johnson
*Navy Lt. Robert C. Caldwell - Silas and Harry (Henry) Scott, and Moses Johnson

We have located the descendants of Richard Roberts, the bounty hunter who stopped Walker and
the seven fugitives for their return to Pensacola.

Do not to refer to the seven men as "slaves." They
were men who were enslaved. Walker himself often called them "servants."

» H2O - Reunion is in 2002

I seem to have erred in one of my previous posts. The Pensacola reunion is in 2002, not 2000 as one of my posts states.

If anyone knows any of the descendants of the enslaved men Walker attempted to help to freedom, we wish to invite them to the Pensacola 2002 Reunion.

» H2O - Change of Date!

The special reunion will be put off until 2004.

Why?

Al Oickle, primary organizer, has other things that need his attention.

And 2004 will mark the 160th. anniversary of the flight of Walker and the seven.

Again, we are still looking for descendents of the Magnificent Seven to participate in this reunion!
