» Nichel - I love the Natural

Hi Larshal, thank you for doing this article on hairstyles and noting going Natural. I too can relate to females you mention. I went natural over 7 years ago. At first it was hard, due to my own personal self-esteem to my hair. However, I over came this issue and now view my natural texture, in which, my creator has blessed me with - a beautiful gift.

I have noticed more women are going natural and positive focus is on this issue from celebrities wearing this style, magazines dedicated to natural hair, and providing natural hair products, etc. I can also relate to the women you spoke to; I did and still do feel like my roots can breathe and when I look in the mirror - I see my image.

I am not locking my hair, I plan on doing that when I get much older because I want the Toni Morrison look (Her dreads are so beautiful to me, it emulates wisdom and beauty). I prefer to twist my hair. I look for natural ingredients in the products I use because it is truly the best care for Nubian hair. I try to find Chamomile, Henna, Jojoba and Rosemary in the product so will give my hair it's natural balance, shine, smell, and durability.

Just recently through, I finally went and brought the Paul Mitchell Super Clean Sculpting Gel, Maximum Hold and Control. This product is GREAT, I got so many compliments.

The technique is after you wash and condition, section your hair, I personally part it as if I was going to cornrow it going back to my nape, then let it air dry - note: it must be dry not wet and then apply the Paul Mitchell Gel evenly.

Next, I would start to flat twist my hair, meaning I would braid like but using two separate pieces of hair and gathering more as I flat twist it towards my scalp. (Make sure it is tight as possible) I would then twist the end around to a knot because it is wet and then put on a tight head wrap. You could go under the blow dryer for an 1 hour or 2, on high. But I prefer to air dry for 24 - 48hrs. So I make sure my parts are neat and clean, if I have to go out.

The end result when I undo the flat twist: is spirals of my Naturally curl pattern. It is absolutely gorgeous!!! smile No harsh chemicals! that would change my natural texture of what my creator had originally intended it to be.

Also, I would like to recommend:

"Where Beauty Touches Me", by Pam Ferrell
A natural hair care and beauty book. I loved it and the book is so helpful on the many styles; providing a step-by-step guild to braiding, twisting, locking, and care for natural hair.

I hope this give some ideas to some. Thank you again, Larshal, for sharing this informative article.

Be Bless ! I am.
