» Red - breathtaking...

Gary,

Seeing those blue buntings must have been a breathtaking experience. I've never seen one, but would love to.

Last year I saw a pileated woodpecker for the first time in my life. It was awesome. I've also noticed that many birds that I've not seen since my childhood are once again making an appearance. Last year we saw gold finches, Baltimore orioles, red-winged blackbirds and a blue heron at the canal that is only a block from our house. These are birds that we haven't seen for many years. It was a great experience.

This is a terrific article and I enjoyed reading it very much. Thanks for sharing your experience.

» scuba_steve - How exciting!

Gary,

I have never seen a Bobcat or an Indigo Bunting and would be thrilled if I ever saw either. Isn't it amazing when rare elements of nature reveal themselves to us. The fact that both events happened so close together is even more amazing. I really like your statement about keeping your eyes open for nature. So many go through life without really noticing the nature around them. For those that do take the time to notice nature the experience can be very rich and rewarding! I enjoyed your article very much.

What a beautiful bird. Thank you for sharing your experience, Gary. In Australia we have some beautiful birds, our little fairy wrens with their vivid blue breasts, only males, of course] but like our native marsupials many of our birds are eccentric rather than glamerous

I'm glad everyone enjoyed the article and a taste of life in the country! Those kinds of "sightings" are pretty rare - but all the more wonderful because we hardly ever get to see them.

Thanks!

Gary
