New Drug Available for ADHDRead the article this discussion is about

» alexeck - ADHD IS A DANGEROUS FARCE I read your article and was alarmed. The problem is simple: ADHD is a false disease, and Concerta is merely a more dangerous drug in that drugs which last throughout the day are simply harder to get out of the system.Factually, these drugs are largely fabrications by drug companies to create new revenue opportunities. ADHD is a fabrication. Ritalin, et all, are simply amphetamines, which are pharmacologically equivalent to cocaine. Cocaine DOES make one feel better--and so do these drugs. When one looks at other issues which cause children to act "hyperactive" (for example, see http://www.add-adhd.org/attention_defici... and the fact that ADHD has basis in medical fact (see http://www.adhdfraud.org/), one realizes that this is a creation to sell drugs. Alex Eckelberry -- posted by alexeck » erj - adhd and drugs Anyone who makes a statement that adhd is a fabrication for drug companies to makes large profits apparently has not done much research on the disorder nor has a child with adhd. Adhd is a reality, and thank goodness the world is opening their eyes to it for our children's sake.-- posted by erj » ravdriver - Re: ADHD IS A DANGEROUS FARCE In response to message posted by alexeck:Alex, you make me want to flame you. I do not choose to be or have ADHD. I cannot, even with many extra steps of organization, predict when my brain will function well and when it won't. Yes, we who take a medication for ADHD do know that what we take is a stimulant. The doctor and nurses, go to great lengths to make sure we understand the effect of stimulants and warn us to avoid adding another chemical with anticholinergic affects within our bodies. I don't want to have to take a medication every day and force my soul into regimented torture just so I can think more clearly. For a creative mind -- which is the blessing of ADHD, too much structure is a prison. I have struggled to apply many of the non-med life skills to help me focus and remain focused -- without hyper-focusing when I forget there is a world or children or a husband for a few hours of intense production. I just want to be able to prepare a thorough grocery list and not ignore my son. I am not looking to have life without struggles. Trust me, I am coping with a major grief experience, but I am not taking a medication to hide from it. I do not take my ADD med to ignore my pain, either. I did go to a one day spiritual retreat for grief today, is that ok? Or is having faith just one delusion I subscribe to? You are cursed to a non-ADHD brain with only linear thought which is why you won't ever understand the reality of ADHD. I bet you are probably a big fan of many conspiracy theories (eg ADHD is a hoax). Maybe you even have taken many of the Internet hoaxes seriously because you just want them to be true. My choice would be to not be ADHD, if I had a choice. I do not find my medication -- not dreaded Ritalin -- to make me "happy" or be a Valium kind of euphoria. I find my medication to somewhat supply the chemical my brain doesn't make thereby allowing me to slow the hurricane and focus. Do you think clinical depression is a hoax? Do think that diabetes is also a hoax? Or is it just that you are really a cranky ADHD'er without benefit of life skills and the medication needed to allow you OPEN YOUR MIND instead of YOUR MOUTH -- posted by ravdriver » Nusco - Re: ADHD IS A DANGEROUS FARCE In response to message posted by alexeck:Alex I am sorry but you have NO idea what you are talking about. I am sorry you are so ignorant about ADHD. I have two children with ADHD. My first is now 29 and was one of the first children I know to be diagnosed. Now he is very successful working with AOL, has a wife and two children. Once in high school when the doctors decided he did not need any medication, he began having trouble. He was an A-B student. He was getting C-Ds. He came home from school almost in tears saying he could not 'do high school any more. He was going to fail out.' AFter talking with a pediatrician, he was started again. In four weeks, he raised each grade one letter grade and then at the next report card, made the honor roll. He went through college and many times has said he would never have been able to be successful if it had not been for his parents getting him the help he needed. He did not have impulsivenes and is now off his medication. He is able to function pretty well without it. If my child had diabetes, I would help them manage it. If my child had epilepsy, I would help him manage it. My child has ADHD, I will help him manage it too. The medication helps to manage the symptoms; helps them to become normal. Before you make statements, please walk in the shoes of someone with this disorder. -- posted by Nusco » snoopy7 - adhd is not an excuse i am sick to my stomach hearing how adhd is an excuse for behavior. i wish teachers and educators would educate themselves before they go around pointing fingers.I feel so much pain for my 7 yr old .and for you non-believers.ADHD IS REAL, JUST AS I AM.
