» biogardener - Love those owls I love owls. I have great grey owls on my country property, but no one except me has ever seen them. I don't know if you know that many people are unable to see owls in the wild. The only fly in the dark, and you can't hear them, but I am always aware of their presence. They circle above me, and I recognize their shape by the round head. All other birds have a point where the beak is.I just painted an owl today. -- posted by biogardener -- posted by Jo Murphy » biogardener - Not yet Not yet. The owl is on a masonite board along with 8 other animals surrounding a mirror. Those are my animal spirits. We have been looking at animal spirits and what they mean in our lives with Darlene. It was an new idea for her, and she now has a SuiteU course on the subject. We got to choose two of the 9 animals ourselves, and my two were owl and fish. You will find fishes and seaweed doodled on every piece of paper which crosses my pen or pencil. One of them you can see on the pic for my Young at Art topic. That one came from a watercolor Valentine I made last year.-- posted by biogardener

I wonder how Traute is going with the owl pic? and the mirror and the other Animal Totems!. This is one of my latest coloured pencil and painted drawings? -- posted by Jo Murphy » biogardener - Other birds That owl is pretty little on a board 3 feet square. I haven't been able to work on it but I have been painting other birds in the meantime, especially eagles. I will have to see if any of them will fit into the scanner.-- posted by biogardener » biogardener - Painting animals I used to draw people all the time when I was a child and teenager, but I never painted them. I drew and painted the odd animal since then. I have not drawn of painted animals or people since I got disabled in a traumatic car accident 20 years ago except in stylized symbolic form. I retreated into the the safety of nature in the form of flowers and landscapes, mostly stylized, too. In the last few months, however, I have painted side by side with several aboriginal North American people who paint and draw animals the moment they have a piece of paper or a canvas in front of them, so I let myself be inspired by them. One of the aboriginal women with whom I paint once a week, paints bigger than life faces of the people around her in very bold lines. So far, I haven't let her inspire me yet. After the trauma of being hurt by people, I find it difficult to paint any people at all. I will have to write an article on that subject. I never quit drawing or painting fishes, though, also in stylized form, and you can see one of them in the signature pic to my Young at Art topic below this message. A book on symbolism says that doodling fishes is a sign of a need for meditation. I'll buy that. -- posted by biogardener
