And now Phone Booth is gone ... what is going on?Read the article this discussion is about

» Juju57 - Interesting article Hi, Jason. I hadn't heard about the movie Phone Booth. However, I live in Henrico County, Va. (a suburb of Richmond), and the latest shooting took place just 22 miles from where we live. Forensics have confirmed that the bullet removed from the victim is related to the other shootings. This morning, 2 men were taken into custody just 4 miles from our home, in an area where we shop, get gas, etc. At least one of the men were in a white van, which was parked near - a phone booth! No word yet if they are relted to the sniper case, I hope so, so that this can end. Schools were closed today across the area, originally they were going to open, but under "lockdown" conditions. This is just weird beyond belief.Anyway, very interesting article! -- posted by Juju57 » jaobrien - Re: Interesting article In response to message posted by Juju57:Hi Julie, Thanks for posting your message. For those of us who do not live in that area, we can't even imagine what life must be like for you guys there now, especially as this case has gotten even stranger and more haunting since you posted your discussion. It's hard to tell when and how this will ever end, but our thoughts are with you. Do take care. But, I want to know if you had seen the trailer. This film looks to be a 100% coincidental copy of what is going on now in terms of panic and mayhem, not to mention the law enforcement's reactions to whatever they thFarrell'sll's character is doing in the film. I'm never one for pulling releases. I saw "Collateral Damage" when it was released, and couldn't understand why it was delayed. It has no relation to Sept. 11 whatsoever -- unless I missed a news item that told of a big muscular guy who sneaks into Afghanistan and goes toe-to-toe with bin Laden. Quickly put, "Phone Booth" needed to be delayed. This is one film that, if released wide on Nov. 15, would make every single person uncomfortable. Judging from the trailer, it is art imitating life in the worst way. But the one thing to keep in mind is that the trailer was produced and was in circulation in theaters before this whole sniper true life case even began. Look, I'm not completely insensitive, I certainly understand where trying to watch this film in a few weeks might be uncomfortable for some, but I still stand by the fact that the audience should decide, and since all films, especially dramatic films, could very easily reflect any situation that has occurred to someone, we can't just keep bumping or burying films because they happen to coincide with events that people may be going through at the time. Getting back to the sniper case though, this thing is getting stranger and stranger, and feels like a movie itself. As I'm typing this, the FBI is in Tacoma, Washington, halfway across the country, digging up things from the yard of a house ... apparently related. I sure hope this case is nearing resolution and this sniper is off the streets. There are probably some people out there who wouldn't mind seeing the film, and the studio should allow them the freedom and choice to see it. Those of us who don't feel comfortable seeing it, I suppose, would have to wait until it is released on video months later (though I'd like to see this on the big screen). Yes, studios say they want to protect the audience, but in a way they're really saying they want to protect their bottom line. Hold the film and they make more money later on. Release it now, and they make half as much and take a risk that it does well on video. -- posted by JeffPC
