» jimbers - Greatest War Films of All Times
Jason, some of the films you list, while great films in their own right, don't fall under the category of "war" films as I would define them. I think of a war film as something like "Saving Private Ryan," which shows war and the horror of men killing men in battle and the heroes engendered by such horror. I would list many of the World War II films that I remember seeing growing up -- "So Proudly We Hail," "Bataan," "The Bridge on the River Kwai," "Sands of Iwo Jima," "Destination Tokyo," "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo," "Air Force," "They Were Expendable," and on and on. Those films were my history lesson, skewed as they were toward propoganda. It didn't matter to me. In the Crimean War, I would have to mention "The Charge of the Light Brigade."-- posted by jimbers
