» DrRingDing - just a quick reminder

don't forget about Life Is Beautiful also..

i like a lot of the films, but i too was pissed off my rocker when Shakes in Love (i won't even dignify it with italics) won.. geezus, i personally was rooting for Thin Red Line and not the gritty fluff of Private Ryan..

yeah. rock on. good article.

» kenoscarmark - miramax

i was out of town when you posted the miramax commentary. sorry for going back to a previous posting.
i do not agree with your point-prior to this year
i have been delighted what smaller miramax were nominated. il postino was excellent, in fact much
more satisfying than your "good" choice, "good will hunting". Shakespeare in love was an outstandingly
clever and overwhelmingly emotionally satisfying
movie that played well all the way to the end- unlike private ryan which had 2/3 greatness, 1/3
predictable heart-tugging war hero schmaltz.
oscar nominations or or even winning does not create a classic- we do. we give the movies
their longevity and push movies to greatness or all-time greatness
oscar may contribute details and trivia, but cannot be the measure of greatness. is there a miramax problem? no more than 1972's motown fiasco
costing diana ross her fair shot at history. or cliff robertson's shameless charity giving campaign snagging him a best actor oscar.
i have always loved the oscars. i accept the process for what it is-celebration of movies and not a system that validates my personal taste or decisions.
thanks for your site!
