» LisaInCal - Seminar preparations...

Hi Sue,

I thought I'd start a new discussion here to answer your query...

I am arranging for the second Bay Area Manners In Minutes seminar.

A building is a good idea in case of bad weather. Need a restroom facility. Simple snacks and beverages are helpful. Dog clean-up supplies are necessary (may be provided with building, depending on situation).

Advertising... just ask Pat about her response when I told her that I made 150 copies of the flier! I give small quantities of fliers to a couple veterinarian colleagues who are in private practice, to the organizer of our Welsh terrier walks, to a couple terrier breeders, and also send out fliers to area veterinarians (whom I don't know). I also send fliers to area dog clubs. When I mail fliers to people I don't know, I always send along an explanatory letter. I also post fliers in some pet supply stores, but I don't put too much effort into that.

Let me know if you want to see a copy of the letter and the flier (modified somewhat from Traci's basic version).

I'm sure Lynn has a plan, too, since she has hosted a couple seminars.

» thurlow - Summer Seminar

Hi Lisa,

Yes, I would love to see a copy of your poster/flyer. So far, I have just mentioned it to our vet and friends who have dogs and are thinking about getting dogs between now and summer. The interest is really there, but talk is cheap.

I think we could set up in a school or community center area in my little town which is right in The middle of Minnesota resort country. we have loads of summer visitors (including dogs), but I would expect that the best place to advertise would be through the dog people, veterinarians and word of mouth. I think word of mouth sounds best. My two veterinarians seem most intrigued by Pat's success.

I would like to be a fly on the wall at your seminar next month (...for more reasons that just to watch). (Our winter is being a bit long and boring up here.)It would be very interesting to watch a group training session.

Can you share what the "optimal" number of participants might be? Are we looking for 10 or 20 or 30 to make it worth the trip for Pat, Traci and Jammer (or whichever combo might come)? I assume this is something that needs to be limited, if necessary.

Thanks Lisa, I will look for an answer here or at the new site . I am not having success loading it yet, but I am sure that things will be working soon!!

Sue

» PatM_6 - It does not require that many people.

The requirements for a trip to Minnesota would not be that overwhelming. Especially if we can bunk in at some nice person's home.

That isn't so bad, because if I am staying there, the resident dogs are automatically subject to me.

It is actually great fun. Around 20 is a nice number. A couple over or under is just fine.

The most important thing is that we need some space to work. Outside is fine if the weather is good. I do not do well in extreme heat.

There are a couple more places that are good to hang a flyer. In local grocery stores or anywhere where pet people shop. Even in your church there may be someone that you know.

Any local pet groomers will truly benefit from better behaved dogs. That means their job is easier, groomers should be very interested.

We have done big seminars and we have done smaller ones. Every one was successful and great fun for everyone.

Please do not forget to go to the Quansa site for discussions. That has been up one day and already is busy.

This site will soon be abandoned.
