luteal phase defect
This archived discussion is "read only". « Previous 1 2 Next » » kellyinbama - Re: Re: help-any info on luteal phase defect please In response to Re: help-any info on luteal phase defect please posted by ttcweb:I take a urine ov test each day from day 10 until I find Ov. My cycle used to be 28 days, however my cycle now runs 32 days and I Ov around day 18. My husband and I make a point to be active when I "GET TWO LINES" haha and within a week I feel nauseated and have sharp pains in the abdominal area. By day 32 I start my period. No spotting before and it runs 5 days each month. I have been treated by a RE however with the meds costing 1k a month not including the doctors cost, I have backed away from my RE for a while. After 3 months of injectables I had no luck. The last three months I have been taking some supplements: OVEX, etc and I went from a 28 day cycle to a 32 day cycle. Hubby and I both tested ok. I do have some pco - lots of facial hair... I am soon to be 40 - never had children although only been trying for two years. Any thoughts or suggestions on treatment? -- posted by kellyinbama » ttcweb - Re: Re: Re: help-any info on luteal phase defect please In response to Re: Re: help-any info on luteal phase defect please posted by kellyinbama:If you in fact are ovulating on day 18, that still gives you a 14 day luteal phase. That is very normal. However, it is very possible to get a "false positive" with an OPK. An OPK only measures the hormone that is released that triggers ovulation. Many women will release the hormone, get a positive OPK test, and still not have ovulated. Also, when you get the positive, you should ovulate in about 12 to 36 hours, not "right away". Don't throw the tests out the window, but "double check" the test results by learning how to chart your fertility signs. Charting can either confirm or deny that you are ovulating when the test says you will, but it can also let you know exactly how long your luteal phase is, if you are producing fertile quality cervical fluid, or if there might be a hormonal inbalance that could be keeping you from conceiving. If you and your husband both tested normal, why were you seeing an RE? Which tests were performed for you? What did the RE diagnose? Why were the injectables prescribed? Is the excess facial hair the only PCO symptom you have? Have you had your thyroid tested? How long ago did you see your RE? Did you see an OB/GYN prior to seeing the RE? You also mentioned taking supplements. Which supplements are you taking, and what are the ingredients in them? Are you also taking vitamins? If so, what brand(s) and and in what amounts are the vitamins/minerals? Have you ever used Depo-Provera (the shot) as birth control prior to trying to conceive? Obviously I am asking more questions, but they are necessary questions. At this point, I really don't know what to tell you besides learn to chart your fertility. Hopefully, your answers will give me an idea of what to suggest next. -- posted by ttcweb » Davidsgirl60 - lutiel phase ok help me a little.my period started on nov 14 th 2004.I had a craping feeling on my right side on the 22 that lasted around 2 half to 3 hours,I attributing this to ovulation. My prevous period started oct 14 but I dont know my lutiel phase with this information can anyone tell me my cycle length and lutiel phase length?Going nuts with all this! thanks Christine-- posted by Davidsgirl60 » Davidsgirl60 - Re: Re: Re: Re: help-any info on luteal phase defect please In response to Re: Re: Re: help-any info on luteal phase defect please posted by ttcweb:I giveing a reconmendation to ovulex and fertillity plus .i takr ythem bouth. One is herbal and one is vitimin.I have noticed a diffrence in my cycles. The cramping I usto get is gone the consistancie of the discharge IE blood is smooth and bright/fresh insted of black/brown dank blood and their is no smell of old blood eather.Im not speaking of a fishy smell.I had a smell of old blood its diffrent.Just to be clear. My cycles have shortened abought a week so far iv been told to exspect to contune to level out more over the nex cupple weeks .Iv been takeing these for one half a cycle.Iv had one peroud on them.Ovulex extends the lutel phase and also has an ingredant to stimulate fsh withc inturn stimulats overain production IE EGG DEVOLMENT AND PROGESTRONE DEVOLMENT .verry important to us with messed up lutiel phases.Fertility plus condishions the uterous and its lining the two of them working to gether to provide the optume condishions for ovulation and conseption also note you shuld cut out all caffinee,Dark sods and enriched flowers frome your dite and add lots of raw veggies this is garronteed by bouth producers of these products if after 3 monthss your not pregnant they refund all your cash and postage too.I so far am verry happ with the results so far and in such a short amount of time.I have also been recomended medatation 30 min a day this can drive you nuts and stress you out.Being a born again christain I pefer to pray and spend that time with Jesus.good luck -- posted by Davidsgirl60 » ttcweb - Re: lutiel phase In response to lutiel phase posted by Davidsgirl60:First, your luteal phase is the time between ovulation and the start of your period. So, until your next period starts, there is no way to guess how long your luteal phase is. If you really want to know exactly how long your luteal phase is, you should learn how to chart your fertility signs. The cramping feeling that you experienced may have been ovulation, but I doubt this because the time between the first day of your period and this cramping feeling was only 9 days, not an ideal amount of time for a follicle to develop fully and be released, but possible. Your previous cycle (October 14th to November 13th) was 31 days long. This is a normal cycle length. Your luteal phase is unknown unless you know for sure on which day you ovulated during this cycle, however, the "average" luteal phase length is 14 days, but it can be as little as 10 or as much as 16 days and still be "normal". A luteal phase less than 10 days is called "luteal phase defect" as there is not enough time for the egg to be fertilized, travel through the fallopian tubes, properly implant and begin secreting the pregnancy hormone (which keeps your period from starting). The best thing you can do at this point is to learn how to chart your fertility signs. I recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. This book will teach you everything you need to know about charting and so much more. -- posted by ttcweb » ttcweb - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: help-any info on luteal phase defect please In response to Re: Re: Re: Re: help-any info on luteal phase defect please posted by Davidsgirl60:Ovulex contains the following ingredients: First, not all of these herbs should be taken together (Chaste tree berry and Dong quai for example). And others that should not be taken during the first half of your cycle, the second half of your cycle, or if you might be pregnant. You also may not have noticed the following statement on the Ovulex website either: Also, you should never self medicate, even with herbs and other "natural" supplements unless you have done your own research on each individual ingredient, and you know what it is that you need to treat (meaning that you have been diagnosed by a health care professional). I have also been unable to find out who "AGS testing labs" actually is. If the study that was conducted was a truly scientific study, there should be a way to find it and read it. My recommendation - stop taking the Ovulex and see a doctor to find out if you even have a fertility problem (you may not). -- posted by ttcweb » savedab - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: help-any info on luteal phase defect please It is great to hear about another christian who is on ovulex as well as I am. I am also taking false unicorn root as well as a prenatal vitamin. If you don't mind what is the reason that you are having troubleconcievingg. I am a 39 year old with only one ovary. I am having trouble with the idea thatI'amm trying to control my problem and not letting God take control. God did make these herbs so is it wrong to take them instead of letting God take control. Any input would be greatly appreciated. -- posted by savedab » ttcweb - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: help-any info on luteal phase defect ple In response to Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: help-any info on luteal phase defect please posted by savedab:Before you assume that you are not letting God take control, think about this: A man is swept away and floating in the ocean. He keeps his faith and prays to God to save him. A rescue helicopter finds him and throws out a life preserver, but the man throws it back saying "God will provide". Hours later, a ship comes across the man, and throws out a life perserver, but the man throws it back saying "God will provide". Hours later, a submarine surfaces and carries the man out of the water. The man jumps back into the water saying "God will provide". The man dies and goes to Heaven. He asks God, "Why didn't you save me?" God's reply was, "I sent you a helicopter, a ship, and a submarine. Why didn't you accept the help I offered?" Just because you believe that God will help you with your fertility issue, don't be so sure that seeking medical assistance is not Gods way of helping you. If I recall, there is a passage in the Bible that says something similar to "God helps those that help themselves." That is what you need to do - help yourself so God can help you. I personally would strongly suggest that you seek the assistance of an RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist) who will be able to perform the needed medical testing to fully diagnose and treat your fertility issue. Due to your age (I'm getting up there in years too), having one ovary (functioning I am assuming), and apparently dealing with luteal phase problems, an RE might be your best bet for a pregnancy. Don't forget to have your spouse checked as well. About 40% of the time the fertility problem is with the man, 40% it is with the woman, and about 10% of the time it is a combined problem of both the man and the woman. In about 10% of cases, there is no known reason for the fertility problem, or the problem cannot be diagnosed medically. Do not allow your religious beliefs to block any avenues of help that are available to you. -- posted by ttcweb » mtngirl49 - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: help-any info on luteal phase defect In response to Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: help-any info on luteal phase defect ple posted by ttcweb:There is absolutely no verse in the Bible that at all resembles any type of statement that "God will help those who help themselves." This is the most anti-Christian statement that one could make. Chrisians do have the freedom to pursue infertility treatment but is also good to keep firstmost the understanding that God is in control. God may use cetain avenues to create a baby in your womb just the same way in which he may use chemo to heal someone of cancer. However, this is not because people are trying to "help themselves" that God hepls them. God helps all people out of grace, a gift we recieve from Christ's death on the cross. There is nothing we can do for ourselves. We are poor, miserable sinners who are dead to sin until Christ brings us to life through his grace. Then, we live by grace alone. It would be wise of those who wish to give theological advice and quote the Bible to make sure they know what they are talking about. And is is also not true that you shouldn't let your religious beliefs block any avenues of "help" that are available to you. If your religious belifes go against an avenue that would be of "help" to you, you do not take that avenue. -- posted by mtngirl49 » mtndew - luteal phase length Hi! I have a question about my luteal phase length and ovulation in general. I last got my period on June 28. My bleeding lasts for approx. 2 -3 days. On MyMonthlyCycles.com, my ovualtion dates were July 13 - 14 (days 15 and 16 of my cycle). However, since this is first month my husband and I are trying to get pregnant, I took an ovulation test on July 10 (day 12)and it was positive. The next morning I took another and the line was much much lighter. Based on this, when should I be ovulating? 24 - 48 hrs after the positive test? Does the LH Hormone decrease after the egg is released? I'm really confused. Is having a longer luteal phase length ok????Thanks for any help!
