luteal phase defect: Re: lutiel phase

» ttcweb - Re: lutiel phase In response to lutiel phase posted by Davidsgirl60:First, your luteal phase is the time between ovulation and the start of your period. So, until your next period starts, there is no way to guess how long your luteal phase is. If you really want to know exactly how long your luteal phase is, you should learn how to chart your fertility signs. The cramping feeling that you experienced may have been ovulation, but I doubt this because the time between the first day of your period and this cramping feeling was only 9 days, not an ideal amount of time for a follicle to develop fully and be released, but possible. Your previous cycle (October 14th to November 13th) was 31 days long. This is a normal cycle length. Your luteal phase is unknown unless you know for sure on which day you ovulated during this cycle, however, the "average" luteal phase length is 14 days, but it can be as little as 10 or as much as 16 days and still be "normal". A luteal phase less than 10 days is called "luteal phase defect" as there is not enough time for the egg to be fertilized, travel through the fallopian tubes, properly implant and begin secreting the pregnancy hormone (which keeps your period from starting). The best thing you can do at this point is to learn how to chart your fertility signs. I recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. This book will teach you everything you need to know about charting and so much more. -- posted by ttcweb
