Folic acid problems
This archived discussion is "read only".
» jillyjill - poor folic acid utilization I have recently been diagnosed with poor folic acid utilization and have been put on Folbee. I have other problems too. Two years ago I lost my baby at 16 weeks and had to deliver him. The doctor at the time gave no explanation but my new doctor thinks this is the problem but it took two years to figure it out. In the meantime I have been put on Glucophage to help me regulate my period and to ovulate, I am taking Clomid, Progesterone suppositories, and low dosage aspirin. I feel like a drug store. So, what I am wanting to know is if anyone else has been put on this Folbee and if it has helped them. I am told I will be on this for the rest of my life. But, I am still trying to have a child and I want to know if this will really help. If anyone out there has been on this drug or had this problem, please talk to me.-- posted by jillyjill » ttcweb - Re: poor folic acid utilization In response to message posted by jillyjill:Without knowing a lot more about your individual situation, I can only guess at what may be going on and why different medications have been prescribed. Glucophage is usually prescribed to women that have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) to help control some of the symptoms and encourage regular ovulation when combined with Clomid. Folbee contains very high amounts of Folic Acid, which helps to prevent spinal birth defects, and Vitamins B-6 and B-12, both of which are needed for regular menstral cycles. A deficency in these nutrients should not cause a miscarriage to the best of my knowledge. Women with PCOS do appear to be more prone to miscarry, and that alone could have been the reason for the miscarriage. Unfortunately, if your original doctor did not do extensive testing at the time of the miscarriage, all that can be done now is guessing as what might have caused it. The cause of most miscarriages is unknown, which is very difficult to deal with and accept. I know that both of the miscarriages that I had were due to unknown causes. Hopefully other women that have experienced something similar will reply to you and let you know what they know. -- posted by ttcweb
