» Sylvan78 - Japanese Garden
Hello everyone. We're a married couple that just purchased our new home in Valdosta, GA. The home is brand new on a brand new lot and we're trying to get some ideas on how to go about starting to design our lot in a Japanese Garden style. Any references that can be offered would be most helpful. We're new to the site as well, so trying to figure out how to best use it. It's a little overwhelming compared to some of the other forums I've used.-- posted by Sylvan78

Hi!
Thanks for visiting...there are many books available on Japanese Garden design as well as a web site devoted to Japanese Gardens [http://www.jgarden.org/]. This site also features pictures of various Japanese gardens on a rotating basis.
Japanese Gardens are designed with a purpose in mind...teahouse (in the classical sense), meditation, stroll garden, viewing garden....plus many historical variations.
I suggest you move slowly in your implementing process...think of what you want and would like to achieve in terms of style; do the design; visit some Japanese Gardens for inspiration and ideas; take photos; make sketches. You are at the beginning of a fantastic adventure!
Unfortunately, Suite101 is in the midst of a transformation...I do not know if I'll be back writing about gardening and landscaping after the transition.

Happy dreaming and gardening!
