What was it like - most specifically, in the punk scene. Clothing trends, drugs, bands and venues, tv shows, what did you do when not at a concert, general philosophies....? details!

» CRB1 - ex-punk

Some say that there is no such thing as an ex-punk. The initial philosophy and overview of a true punk was to die at 20 years old because after that you are burnt out, old, useless.
Of course, I never went along with that one (obviously). I'm now 45 years old and the spirit of that time remains.(It's also important to point out that I'm not so prehistoric that it shouldn't be done now!) I no longer adorn the sleeper in the nose and chain to the ear. I still think padlocks make great jewellery, but it is important to remember that all of these were (and still are) symbols. Significant statements in times of frustration with the establishment.
The music blew away the cobwebs, the clothes made a statement and, most of all, it was important to be seen, and heard! Shock tactics, and language that would make a sailor blush. It was also a huge shot in the arm for rock'n'roll in general. By that; I mean the unadulterated stuff.
I'm currently attempting to write some experiences, and recapture the excitement and anticipation of its beginnings,(from the places I was at the time.) An amazing sub-culture developed and is still alive and kicking today. Please don't carry the misconception of the rules that apply to Punk! That just defeats the purpose. THERE ARE NO RULES! If there are? Well, Rules were made to be broken!
