The father of Kobe Bryant's accuser has called the police at least twice in recent weeks to report threats against his daughter. Earlier this month, a University of Iowa student was arrested for leaving a threatening message on the woman's answering machine in July. Most recently, A Swiss bodybuilder who claims ties to organized crime was arrested for investigation of offering to murder the alleged victim in the Kobe Bryant sex assault case. Patrick Graber, 31, agreed to carry out the killing for $3 million, said Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca. He made the offer to Bryant's security director and met several times with undercover detectives before being arrested during a sting. The investigation started Sept. 8, after Bryant's security personnel said they had received a letter stating that the writer could solve Bryant's problems. A search warrant was served where Graber lived and firearms were found. A defense attorney for Bryant, Hal Haddon, told KUSA-TV in Denver on Thursday that Bryant is "scared for his family" in light of the alleged murder scheme and "outraged that any of these kinds of threats and these kinds of offers are made." He added that Bryant is "very concerned that he can't get a fair trial in this atmosphere."

» NYCScribe - Big victory for Kobe

Although he was unable to emerge victorious along with his fellow Lakers in the NBA Finals, Kobe Bryant's chances of winning a far more crucial battle, his upcoming court case where he is accused of rape, have dramatically improved. In a huge victory for Bryant’s defense, the judge in the NBA star's sexual assault case has ruled that his accuser's sex life during the week of their encounter can be used against her at trial. The defense's bid to question the accuser's credibility by bringing up her sex life was considered one of the most important pieces of Bryant's upcoming trial. The defense has suggested the woman had multiple sexual partners in the days surrounding her June 2003 encounter with Bryant, including sex with someone after the alleged attack and before she contacted the authorities. Her attorney has vehemently denied that claim. The defense contends injuries found on her during an exam at a hospital could have been caused by someone other than Bryant. The judge ruled that Colorado's strict rape-shield law, which generally prevents the sex life of an alleged assault victim from being admitted as evidence, does not apply to all the information Bryant's lawyers want to introduce. He said he was convinced by the defense that "specific instances of sexual activity" and evidence of sex can be offered to bolster their contention that her injuries were not caused by Bryant.

With jury selection under way, the criminal case against Kobe Bryant has been dropped. Prosecutors said that the 20-year-old woman accusing Bryant of rape had decided not to participate. Her exit followed gaffes that led to the public disclosure of her name and other personal details, and prosecutors said they would not carry on without her testimony. The 26 year old Los Angeles Lakers star still faces her federal civil lawsuit against him seeking unspecified damages.

Bryant issued a written apology that stopped short of taking responsibility for his actions.

“Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did,” he said.
