» bhisinc - Convection Oven

Hi Carolyn, I have been using a convection oven in my rv for five years. Really intimidated me at first.
I find it is important to pre-heat it. I use the rule of thumb..if I did in a regular oven I do in the convection. If you have any other questions just holler. I will try to help.

Do you have any of your favorite convection recipes you would like to share with us? I would
love to see them and even might try them out.

Thanks,

» Charlotte_Jordan - Wow

Wow, that is pretty scary. I just asked, "where is our fuse panel". I found the emergency window, but haven't touched it, figuring, how am I going to get thru that little hole. ha ha I guess I could if flames were after me, but my purse is in the other room. Now I will have to sleep with my
purse under my pillow.

» DustyRose - Is it soup yet?

I must be the luckiest person around...my smoke alarm has an on/off switch on the side! It is so handy to be able to hit a switch and turn it off while cooking! It is OLD, but should still be available in some form. It's called a Smokey Stover, Model 4002. I don't see any sort of date on it, but it had been in an old MH when we got it that had been sitting, unused, for over ten years! The ten minute fire is a scary thought, especially since I am terrified of fire in general! Maybe need to hook the two that came in the FW up on each end, huh? Happy Trails, Dusty Rose

does anyone know where I can get a cookbook on convection cooking for my panasonic microwave. It is model NN 8501v. The cookbook is out of print. I bought an RV with this convection oven in it and they did not have the cookbook to it and Panasonic does not have one. Thanks, shirley at sjeanmac@aol.com

» aquafina - First time RV convection cooking

We just bought a Rv that has a convection /micowave oven. I tried to bake biscuits in the convection oven. What a disaster!
They were as hard as rocks. White on the outside and brown on the inside. I would like some hints on what I may have done wrong, and how to correct the problem. Thanks.

In response to message posted by aquafina:

I had the same problem. It turned out I was using the microwave portion of the oven. Just a quick hint. Drop the temp by at least 25 degrees when cooking with the convection. I don't know what oven you have but with ours these are the steps we take to use it.

1. Press the convection button
2. Select the temp you want, remember the 25
degree rule.
3. Put in the amount of time to cook, usually the
time is around the same you would normally use
to cook in a regular oven.
4. Press the convection button again.
5. Press the start button. The oven should now be
going through the pre-heat stage. When it's
ready, it should beep you.
6. Put the food in and hit start again. Now your
cooking.

The first time we cooked with ours, we cooked a roast that was cooked the whole time on pre-heat, didn't come out well at all. Burnt to a crisp.
When you get it down, the food comes out great.
Hope this helps a little.

I went through the same problem trying to find a cookbook for my oven, Sharp. I made contact with the manufacturer and they actually had one of the original cookbooks sent out with the unit. It turned out to be just a cookbook for any brand of oven. If you know how to use the oven, choosing between convection and microwave, setting temps,
setting times and all that, then what I've discovered is the basic rule, drop the temp by 25 degrees and cook about the same time as you would in a normal oven.

» asb4451 - Fifth Wheel Hitch

Hi, we just bought our first fifth wheel and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on fifth wheel hitches. We have a short bed truck and were told that a slide hitch was recommended. Any input on makes and models would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Shirley,
Well, it is almost 2 years since your posting. I came across it during a web search. I also purchased an RV with the same microwave by Panasonic (the NN 8501V). Did you ever get any information about it?

Thanks,
Joel
