» tnskeeter - seizure in rottweilers? need answers Hello! I just join because I am worried about my Rottweiler. We got her from an animal resque. They didn't know much about her. She looks to be about 2 years old according to our vet.We have had her sinceDecc. 2004. She started having seizuresaboutt two weeks ago. I was wondering if anyone else has come across this? If so, could you please tell me how to handle this? Thanks so mucTnskeetereter -- posted by tnskeeter » tnskeeter - Re: seizure in rottweilers? need answers In response to seizure in rottweilers? need answers posted by tnskeeter:I did take her to the vet. She thinks epilepsy. -- posted by tnskeeter » Loni - Re: Re: seizure in rottweilers? need answers In response to Re: seizure in rottweilers? need answers posted by tnskeeter:tnskeeter: We had a German Shepherd that also had epileptic seizures. He never had them until after we had him to the vet to be neutered, and the vet ( we found out later on that he didn't like German Shepherds ) messed up the surgery. I really think that maybe our dog was without oxygen for a period of time, causing damage within the brain. His personality never changed, though. He was put on medication, and died when he was about 10 or 11 years old. When he came out of a seizure, he was the most frightened dog you'd ever want to see, afraid of everything, especially us. When the effects wore off after about 2 hours, he was back to normal. I sure wish that we could have proved that this was that vet's fault. We still went to that clinic, but never to that particular vet again. Most of the time, epilepsy in dogs is due to some sort of trauma to the puppy during birth. I hope that your vet has prescribed meds for your dog. They won't cure the seizures, but will cut down the frequency of seizures. If your vet hasn't prescribed meds, please consult another vet. Good luck. He whined alot last night before he had it, like he new it was going to happen. I have no Idea what brought it on. Hes pretty spoiled and is never a out side dog. About the only problems with him is his poor hips. Hopefully he doesnt have any more. -- posted by kostructures » shelby427 - Seizures My rotty sheleby, had a seizure today. It was the first time she had ever had one. she was getting really sick the night before and when i woke up she was foaming at the mouth and shaking voietly. and right after i we got her to the vet they gave her medication to calm down and then she passed away. If your dog is having seizures they can be serious. If your vet doesnt know whats causing them, id go to another vet.-- posted by shelby427
