The Civil War continues to live on in parks and public events throughout Arkansas. Reenactments, realistically staged by volunteer actors, have grown and added new dimensions to written histories. History teaches us valuable lessons and offers us guidance in how we should go into the future. In researching the Civil War and the affects it had for the state of Arkansas, I realized quickly how truly devastating this period in our history was for the people who actually lived it. When one opens their mind to the true meanings of what others have lived through, we quickly become entrenched and awed by the power of the human spirit. This is seen in the faces of the men during the reenactments of these battles. They become one with the person they are imitating.
