Grant Research/Writing

Introduction

Welcome to Grant and Proposal Writing. The majority of nonprofit organizations are dependent on grant funding for many of their projects and programs. Sometimes individuals are hired solely for this purpose. At other times an existing staff person is called on to write a grant proposal at relatively short notice. The purpose of this course, as the name implies, is to provide the student with all of the tools needed to successfully write a proposal for a funding source, like a foundation, a corporation, or a governmental entity. This course will lead the student through the process—from designing a project (which many individuals tend to overlook as the first step) to researching funding sources (with web links provided for the major research resources) to the all important steps of preparing both the preliminary proposal (which is required by some funding sources) and the full proposal. Finally, the student will assemble all supporting documentation and review all proposal paperwork before submission to the funding source. By the time that the student completes the assignments in this course, he or she will know where to look for existing grant programs, will have the tools for designing a project, and will have gone through all of the steps on the path to completing a full proposal for submission to a funding source
