Nanny 101
Introduction
So you want to be a Nanny?
As a nanny you are responsible for maintaining the safety and well being of children. If you are thinking about a career in child care as a nanny, this is the course for you. Nanny 101 will teach you about what skills a nanny should have, how to find a job and what a nanny should know to be successful.
When I was nineteen, I accepted a position in Boston as a live-in nanny. At the time, I had several years of experience in varying childcare roles and I was ready to see another part of the country while taking a job doing something I loved.
Working as a live-in nanny was the perfect cross-country adventure opportunity for me. I remember the process being both scary and exciting. I was moving fifteen hundred miles from home to take care of two girls and a dog. Now this may not seem adventurous to some, but until you have packed your bags and made the unknown leap to a new place and family, you have no idea. And having no idea what you are getting yourself into can be a problem, of course.
One aspect of this process that stood out in my mind was the lack of resources available to someone considering a job as a live-in nanny. I knew some of what to expect but ended up learning through doing. This was okay, but it would have been better to have a guide to help me through the process, preparing me for what I would face and answering some of the questions that I had.
Nanny 101 is a way for you to become informed about the nanny profession. This course will teach you about what it means to be a nanny and how you can find a family that is a good fit for you. Do not go into a nanny job blind; learn how to find the best possible family so you can succeed.
Chandra's experience as a nanny is totally beneficial to anyone interested in this profession and to parents who may consider a nanny as a child care option. Maureen Fleury
