Microsoft Excel is an tremendously powerful tool; it provides the capability to manipulate complex data to provide information upon which decisions can be made. The more complex the data involved the more time consuming the task becomes. Many of the mundane, repetitive activities can be automated to provide a significant performance boost, and an enhanced level of accuracy.
This course, aimed at moderately experienced users, will introduce the concepts of macros from simple keystroke recording and playback, to sophisticated user-controlled procedures. The thought of becoming a programmer, the traditional Dweeb role, may make you feel like running screaming from your desk, but, I hope to show you that it really is not that difficult. With a little bit of knowledge, and the willingness to practice and make lots of mistakes, you will be amazed at how quickly your effectiveness in using spreadsheets will improve.
This course will focus on practical examples taken from real-world applications. Rather than try to teach you all of the aspects of the language, I intend to look at how to solve specific problems with the application of the appropriate VBA code elements. Significant reference will be made to the accompanying text books, and all of the code will be provided and explained.

All of the example spreadsheets and macro code will be available for you to practice with, and to start to develop your own solutions to problems you face in your everyday efforts with Excel. The aim is to remove the mystery surrounding the use of macros and show you how effective you can become by applying the techniques you will learn, to tasks you have to perform.
Each lesson will build on the skills from the previous one, and there will be plenty of references to the accompanying text books to ensure that you have both the theory behind the code, and its application. Important resources on the internet will be identified to help you extend your new found knowledge.
