Cooking with Kids

Introduction

Kids in the Kitchen is a class for kids five to eight years old who have never been exposed to cooking. With an adult, they’ll learn about kitchen safety, cooking terms and techniques as well as how to make tasty dishes that everyone in the family will love to eat. The course will also keep the adult involved and show them that having kids in the kitchen is better than keeping them out - we'll also have a special section for parent tips.

Please keep in mind that this is an introductory course, so the recipes will be very basic, but that won’t mean that the results won’t be fantastic. I use these recipes myself. It just means that they won’t be intimidating to the kids.

But, since kids get excited to move quickly, the recipes and lessons will accommodate that. Lesson One teaches kitchen rules and the recipe will be Five Cup Salad. Lesson two explains cooking terms and then we cook “Toad in the Holes” (also called Sunshine Toast). Lesson Three teaches accurate measuring and afterwards we make Peanut Butter Treats. And finally, Lesson Four teaches a cooking term and then we’ll make Perfect Pasta Stone Soup.

Kids in the Kitchen is definitely a great place for children and adults to come together and not only learn important life skills, but also make some great food and what could be a better class than that on a rainy day?

It's suggested, but by no means required that you follow along in Angela Wilkes' "Children's Quick and Easy Cook Book." Her book is an excellent companion to this class, and it is filled with excellent pictures. Pictures make or break any cook book, whether for children or adults.

Can't wait to see you.
